South Shore-based radio stations KRLT and KOWL are about to change ownership.

General Manager Steve Harness is buying 93.9-FM and 1490-AM from Cherry Creek Radio. The deal should be completed July 21. The FCC must still approve the transfer.

The on air talent and programming are expected to remain the same.

Harness has been with KRLT-KOWL since 2007. He started as a disc jockey, became program director, operations manager and then general manager last year.

The 39-year-old South Lake Tahoe resident started his broadcast career while in high school.

Congratulations Mr.Harness on your purchase of KOWL / KRLT. Keep local radio alive and LOCAL.
Many years ago there was a radio station from north shore. It was KSML, or the secret mountain labrotory as it was called. Classic alternative radio at its best!
If you have trouble getting the radio waves going call Bill Kingman and Dave Wakeman and they know ALL about the the local radio business and a lot about our local history.
Wishing you the best of luck in your new venture.

    Congratulations , Steve
This is indeed good news for a local to be the owner.
May you grow strong and employ many great hard working locals and become a source of much economic growth in the basin. God bless!

Nice move. But disapointed to see the talent is staying, Howie is ok but Drew is embarassingly bad. The incident with the potential jumper was a perfect example of his lameness as a community representitive. The station can do better.

Dreu is not affiliated with KRLT-KOWL.

Yes, KRLT has on air personalities worth listening to! And at least have a clue not to make jokes about a serious suicide situation.

KOWLKen-congratulations on providing hate radio on a daily basis to the rubes-there’s one born every minute-strictly a business decision or are you feeble minded too?

Why buy a radio station and make no changes? I only listen during emergency situations which has not been helpful because there was no person actually manning the station , all preprogrammed. Hopefully being locally owned that will change. Please change the format to something more contemporary without all the right wing nuts.

Steve has been interviewing me three times a year for the Friends of the Library books sales. He is smart & easy to talk to. Local guy makes good! Now he’ll be too busy for my interviews but Howie & Kevin Brown are good at their jobs, too.

I would like to hear LIVE news when the town is having power outages, gas line breaks, forest fires, traffic or road closures. Jerry H was always there at KOWL during ALL emergencies. Good Luck Steve!
