A South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Dec. 25 in conjunction with a burglary in the Al Tahoe area of South Lake Tahoe.

People renting a vacation house on Fresno Avenue were awakened about 6:30am to a man rummaging through their belongings. He allegedly entered through a second story sliding glass door.

He ran out the front door with their property, according to officers.

“The burglar fell in the snow just outside the entrance and dropped a folding knife with a blade of about 4 inches,” according to a police press release. “The suspect had not brandished the knife at any of the victims during the crime.”

South Tahoe officers with the assistance of El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies found Daniel Vega, 24, in the neighborhood. He was reportedly stealing things from vehicles after he left the residence.

Vega was booked into the El Dorado County Jail on a felony charge of first-degree residential burglary.

Police believe other people are involved. They also are trying to locate stolen goods. Missing are an Apple laptop computer with several stickers displayed on it, and a woman’s brown purse with gray strap and its contents.

Anyone with information is asked to call the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at 530.542.6100 or Lake Tahoe Secret Witness at 530.541.6800.

He swears they have the wrong guy. They caught him walking his dog. Who robs a house while walking his dog?

Should be easy enough to test for a fingerprint match on the belongings being rummaged through.

I’m not buying that it was this person. I’ve met this person at the dog beach many, many times, and I remember him telling me that he gets up very early to walk his dog in the mornings-like 4-5AM early. I’m not buying it at all. He is a responsible young man out here to snowboard and works a full-time job, unlike most of the scum in this town.

Too bad the SLT police are such idiots, grasping at straws with this one.

What a shame. This young man’s reputation is now tarnished in our community.

    The truth will reveal itself.

Have you read the KCRA.com report… Unless he had these peoples’ personal belongings in his possession i think the finger pointing is a little early. Do the prints match up on the knife that was dropped when he fell? What proof does sltpd have? Hopefully all the prints on the breakin and then on the car match…maybe even footprint in the fresh snow? Dark hair, brown eyes, dark skin….that looks like half the town. Oh, and a dog. And he lives in that neighborhood….

and i must also add that everyone seems to be yelling about SLTPD (whom i agree can be a bit heavy handed and quick to jump to conclusions at times) getting the wrong guy…the reality is though…he was positively identified as the intruder by the family who were in the vacation house…dude has a very unique look with the long hair facial hair and all…just think about that for a second before you start saying the guys being set up…if he does turn out to be innocent then clearly it was the victims who pointed the finger at the wrong guy and the cops simply did what we pay them to do

  10. Guilty? says - Posted: December 26, 2014

He does have a unique look…put a bandana and beads on him and he might be Jack Sparrow. All I’m saying before you point fingers sltpd better have proof before accusing someone of being guilty…. Because I have not read about any evidence that he did it but, only a foreigner visiting from another country who described him. We are not getting the whole story…You think? Rrrrr

Right. Because a guilty person is going to really post on social media trying to prove his innocence to a very insular community that is South Lake Tahoe. That makes a lot of sense.

He was walking his dog at the time of his arrest. And that’s a damned fact. Doesn’t exactly sound like a burglar to me…
