Douglas County School District needs to find $1.7 million in revenue or expenses to cut before May 18 when the board is expected to approve the 2016-17 budget.

At this week’s meeting Holly Luna, who heads the finance department, gave the bad news to the board members.

Funding for a reading grant is ending, which accounts for about $1 million of the shortfall. Enroll is off as well.

At the April 12 meeting no one brought up the idea of cutting staff to save money in what is projected to be a $56.69 million budget.

The next meeting is in Minden on May 18 at 5pm.
