Letter: Jenner is not news
To the community,
I have often said and written: We are a nation of litigation with a tabloid mentality. The land is filled with tort terrorists and scandal-mongers.
The latest big do about Bruce Jenner is beyond reason, particularly when it replaces so much news of substance and consequence. We are living in a cluttered catastrophe of a culture crisis. We have enemies in this world, but in this case I remember what Pogo said: “We have met the enemy and they is us.”
Not being particularly religious. I do remember some significant words — Jesus wept.

The steps being taken to publicize the “courageous” choice of Bruce Jenner makes me angry and disappointed for those who really took courageous actions that had life long effects on others beside themselves. An example of this, ESPN, a member of the Disney Corporation is awarding Bruce Jenner the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs. It sickens me to know that Jim Valvano’s speech, one of the greatest ever and his battle with cancer could even be remotely compared to this year’s, or even last year’s recipients. This isn’t courage! Other courageous winners included Mohammed Ali, Dean Smith, Pat Summit, Pat Tillman and his brother, Billie Jean King, and Robin Roberts. I will be hard pressed to watch the ESPYs this year.
Amen here Sister. What a shameless waste of time and energy is being devoted to this non-subject.
He and his family are a freak show and poster child for dysfunctional drama. Now he is the star.
I for one believe that Bruce/Caitlin has every right to be open about who she is. Coming out as transgendered is a very brave thing to do.
I agree that there are more important things to cover; but c’mon, how many of them would be in a lifestyle magazine like Vanity Fair anyway? If you don’t like the cover, don’t buy the magazine.
There is a wonderful tool that can be used to filter out content in the news you don’t care for.
It’s called the on/off switch.
Jack… just not buying the magazine would be great but for the next 30 days from when the issue hits the stands, every time I go to the grocery store or market or any store that has a magazine stand at the point of sale, I will have to be constantly reminded of this story as it will be continually thrown in our faces.

Fully in line with the Kardashian tasteless, dysfunctional, uninteresting, and irrelevant penchant for publicity. Knowing what’s likely ahead, I change the channel any time one of them appears.
Come to the conclusion you have to stop giving this trash the attention they crave. Disconnect from cable, stop watching the idiot box. Get out in the real world and do good. There are more of us than them. Don’t give the weirdocracy YOUR TIME! True, they won’t go away, they do have a right to exist, but don’t support them by investing your time in their mental illness.

It saddens me to read some of these comments, which strike me as rather mean-spirited. Gender identity is a complex issue and people who are transgender do not make the decision to transition lightly. Transgender people experience bigotry and violence at the hands of people who simply don’t take the time to understand gender identity issues. None of us have the right to judge Caitlyn Jenner for the decisions she had made for her own well-being. If the news media’s reports are offending you, feel free to ignore them. I don’t care what Caitlyn/Bruce Jenner does…it’s his freedom and she’s entitled to it. What I’m a bit twitterpated by is the media frenzy on both sides of the situation.
