Groundbreaking motorcycle movie to air in Tahoe City

Bruce Brown’s “On Any Sunday: Next Chapter” changed the face of motorcycling in America. It opened up the mainstream’s eyes to a variety of two-wheeled sports that millions are consumed by during their free time, away from the hustle and bustle of the rat race.

Even more so, his film inspired entire generations to get on a motorcycle.

Brown will present the film with a Q& A session on April 25.

Squaw Valley Institute in partnership with the Tahoe Art Haus & Cinema in Tahoe City is putting on this latest installment of the Squaw Valley Institute Movie Night Series. There will be two showings — at 6pm and 8pm.

    I saw the original On Any Sunday back in 1971 at it’s original Westwood location the weekend it was released and have watched it hundreds and hundreds of time since. It’s the only movie I ever owned and put on my IPad. The movie was a major inspiration for me and millions of others and a major catalyst for the acceptance of motorcycle riding and riders. I have also seen this new version three times already, also excellent. Can’t wait to meet Bruce Brown.

    I hope it comes to South Shore, or, maybe I will have to purchase it on DVD…or? I well remember seeing the original On any Sunday, long ago. Seen it several times, hardly as many as Carl though.
    I knew and rode with Steve McQueen, and a few others, when we all rode in the dirt/sand/etc…..a long time ago. I have a few photos of Steve, and some information, on my website. I have nearly a million miles on motorcycles…about 660,000 of them on BMW’s. I only gave up 2-wheeling a year ago (gave up old-timers races and other forms of racing then too)…still drive my sidecar rig, locally, and long distance too. I am an all-year-round rider; I probably am the only one that shows up at Heavenly to go skiing, using a sidecar rig. Drove it several times this week….only about 60 miles on it yesterday though. Motorcycling gets into your blood, can become a way of life…especially with a family and youngsters riding off-road at an early age….and it is very difficult to explain, or get across to others, what the enormous attraction of riding really is. On Any Sunday really helped. The Wild One did NOT.

    A great and classic movie. I never got tired of watching it. An excellent documentary about all the different types of riding and racing.
