Opinion: Poverty not an action item for Legislature

Poverty is the issue du jour of this year’s legislative session – with good reason.

By an alternative Census Bureau method of calculating poverty, including the cost of living, 23.4 percent of California’s 39 million residents are impoverished, the nation’s highest rate.
A Public Policy Institute of California study found that poverty is fairly consistent throughout the state, although Los Angeles County, with high living costs and mediocre incomes, has the highest.
How many of the 23% of CA residents are recent arrivals and illegal aliens?
How many of the 12 million on welfare-cal are illegals and recent arrivals? Come on now the America hating pols in Sacramento and Washington are doing their best to diminish a once great country. Gov. Moonbeam wants the world to come and be welcomed in CA especially if you immediately go on working taxpayers backs.
California has tuition free Jr college for single, independent, childless people making less than $15,700 a year apparently. If accessing these colleges is convenient enough,…….
Sounds about right. One quarter of the population is poverty stricken and Tahoe hasn’t been left out of the equation. The fact is seen here everyday and every season. But the BOS gave themselves a raise and decided over 100 extra employees hired unnecessarily should be kept. Complete failure of government and the numbers prove it.
Dan, poverty is not equally distributed in California. The poorest Counties in California are in Tulare, Fresno, Madera, Imperial, Trinity and Lake Counties. These Counties rely on Agri-business and Timber extraction.
As for the blanket statement that “Green” jobs would be no benefit; California is a prime State for Solar Powered Rooftops generating millions of megawatts daily.

Good luck bringing businesses to (or back)to Cali-lib-Mexico. Gov. Moonbutt has taxed them out of ever wanting to be in this pathetic state again. Then add Moonbutts open invitation to m millions of illegals and you have the situation we are in with no light at the end. This state is getting what it deserves thanks to the government. Adding more money to welfare won’t do anything but keep the lazy….lazy.
The decade long assault on small businesses in favor of big corporations – big banks and big government has done great damage in California and throughout the country.
The employment opportunities and labor participation rates are at the worst levels in modern history.
Without a return to the principles of free enterprise the opportunities will continue to decline.
The SCOTUS did a horrific thing to Americans when they in effect concluded that corporations have the same rights as people. They don’t – our country was created on the principle ‘of the People by the people for the People” this principle has been shoved aside by the big corporations and we are now “Of the Corporation By the Corporation and for the Corporation”.
Big corporations/banks are helping to rot the country from the inside and we need to change that or we will continue our decline as a society.
The division grows.
