Bill would label genetically modified food

A group of U.S. senators, including Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., are pushing for a law that would require labels for genetically engineered foods, but efforts to make similar laws in California have failed.
Some lawmakers want all foods that are genetically engineered to be labeled in order to alert consumers.
“Consumers have a right to know what is in the foods they eat, and parents have a right to know what they are feeding their families,” Boxer said in a news release. “This legislation will direct the Food and Drug Administration to require clear information for food that has been genetically engineered.”
Still, some scientists say genetically engineered, or genetically modified foods, are not harmful.
YES YES YES! GMO sucks and we need it to be exposed for what it is. “Some scientists say it isn’t harmful?” Yeah, the ones at Monsanto!
I believe the public has a right to know what their food is made of.
All food has been modified over time. Most of it started as weeds and grass A long ago.
The public is free to do its own due diligence. More layers of government will not ensure safety. Just added expense.
Companies who provide what their customers want will prosper. Those who abuse their customers won’t. The market knows how to do this stuff WAY better than your government does. Just look at how many products already advertise ‘organic’ or ‘non-gmo’, without any requirements from government to do so. It’s because they know that some people care about that and are seeking what they have to sell. You are free to purchase it or not. Voluntarily.
Anti-vaccine, anti-gmo, how far are we taking this paranoia? It’s very easy to be small-minded when we’re thinking of only our small family unit. You can easily purchase non-gmo foods at the store, or build your own organic garden, and allow less self-centered people worry about how we’re going to feed a planet that is already overpopulated. Stop trying to force your conspiracy theories on other people.
Are the new more potent forms of pot genetically modified?
