Nutting’s wife to run for his seat; appeal filed
By Peter Hecht, Sacramento Bee
The last time people witnessed the determination of Jennifer Nutting, she stood in the well of the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors chambers as her husband, embattled Supervisor Ray Nutting, wiped away tears.
The board voted to ask a judge whether Nutting must be kicked out of office for official misconduct as a result of misdemeanor convictions for improperly raising bail money from two county employees and a major contractor doing business with the county. In an emotionally charged speech, Jennifer Nutting hailed her “hero” and lit into those who “maliciously prosecuted my husband.”
Now Jennifer Nutting says she is running for her husband’s seat, which was declared vacant by Superior Court Judge Timothy S. Buckley at Nutting’s sentencing June 6. Six candidates have now opened campaign committees or officially announced that they will run in the Sept. 9 special election to replace him.
Nutting’s entry into the race to serve out the last 21/2 years of her husband’s term adds yet more flair to a long political and legal drama that has raged in El Dorado County. Nutting, who owns a Pollock Pines hair salon, registered a campaign committee Tuesday called “People for Clean Government, Jennifer Nutting for Supervisor.”
On Monday, Ray Nutting’s attorney David Weiner filed legal papers declaring Nutting’s intention to appeal his criminal conviction. Weiner said Nutting is seeking a new trial on the misdemeanor counts and will challenge the judge’s order forcing his removal from office.

Oh, this ought to be a three ring circus. I hope someone will keep their eye on the FPPC filings for this upstanding family. Im sure they will follow the campaign finance laws. LOL
And David Vitter is still in office…
Apparently Lady Nutting knows how to Set Hair! Apparently the Lady has learned how to set Fires!
OMG
So Jennifer Nutting is going to run for County Supervisor?! LOL! Wow! What a way to run a County!
and his attorney’s name is weiner, and the mrs. does hair, and wants to run for people for a clean government. you can’t even make this crap up.
This is totally out of Spite!
She is less qualified than her whining little hubby. Stick to what you do best….set hair…….and maybe an occasional fire. The both of you are county JOKES!
El Dorado County. Schadenfreud!! I hate to say it EDC, but you make some of our blunders here on So. Shore look minimal. Our local govt. is stellar as compared to whats going on down on the west slope. Maybe a few of the districts in the county should disband and become part of the City of South Lake Tahoe! You’ll get rid of some of the corruption and we will increase our tax base. Come join “The Lake of the Sky”, you’ll be glad you did! Old Long Skiis
Hey OLS, I’m sure you’ve been around long enough to recall when the Lowe family went crazy over the formation of the City and, especially, the formation of a Police Department that basically took local jurisdiction away from the Sherriff’s Office, where Dick Lowe was the Tahoe commander.
Pat Lowe, who essentially wore the pants in the family, managed to get on the City Council and eventually became Mayor. She proceeded to declare war on City employees, which eventually led to a job action by the Police Department, the first, and we all hope, the last time that’s ever been necessary.
Surprisingly, the job action successfully brought the Police Department, and much of the rest of the City, back up to the level where they might actually be able to compete for quality employees – the bottom 15 percentile of the State, if memory serves. But the best news was that County old timers quit trying to take back the City.
All of which I mention because, for all its problems (and they’re numerous), a priority for the City is to continue to distance itself as much as possible from the dysfunctional knuckleheads who direct the County.
Hey Copper, Yeah, I’ve seen lots of crazy stuff in this town, heck even before it was a town! It was November of 65′ as I recall when the city formed… boy, was that a contentious debate, the formation and the “incorporation” of the city! Hoo Daddy, people were arguing all over town!
My comment about the parts of the county becoming part of SLT were done tounge in cheek. I just threw that out there for fun, glad you caught it!
Pat Lowe? Good lord, now there’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time…..Oh my, the story’s I could tell of some of the old Tahoe familys. Some left better unsaid than spread! ( Patent pending on last remark), thank you very much.
Take care, Old Long Skiis
The rumor on the west end is that Ray Nut-job is having some wigs and dresses fitted so he can resume his seat in drag if his wife wins. If these people weren’t corrupt enough yet and he is an already convicted law breaker who won’t face reality, remember she was involved in his bail money being gathered in the county offices by his assistants illegally and a large amount of cash that appeared from somewhere that is very suspect now as to the source, these people are very dangerous if ever given power again it would be for bad intent and revenge and they would cause chaos and be more of a joke then they are.
Yup, nutcase is very corrupt and will no doubt be looking in many back alleys for support and money to get his wifey elected. I hope that the other candidates watch his FPPC filings very closly as they have very specific requirements about financial disclosure and accountability. I personally think that mrs nutcase has about a snowballs chance in h e ll to get elected. Personally I think they should be charged for the countys cost for this special election.
