Voters will have a slew of decisions to make in June during the primary election.

The deadline to file for office for El Dorado County was March 7 at 5pm. That was the same for Placer County. However, for Placer the date is extended to March 12 if an incumbent has not filed. March 14 is the deadline to file for Douglas County races.

The following people are running for El Dorado County offices:

• Superior Court Office 1

California statewide offices on the June ballot include:

• Governor

• Lieutenant governor

• Secretary of state

• Controller

• Treasurer

• Attorney general

• Insurance commissioner.

In order to win the contest outright on June 3 a person must receive 50 percent plus one vote. If no one reaches that amount, then the top two vote getters will square off in November.

In addition to the individual races, there are a number of local and statewide initiatives that will be before voters in June and November. Plus, El Dorado and Placer residents will be asked to vote on a congressional race and Assembly.

On the November ballot will be South Lake Tahoe City Council candidates. The seats occupied by Angela Swanson, Brooke Laine and Tom Davis will be up.

November will be the first time Lake Tahoe Unified and Lake Tahoe Community College candidates are elected by district. This means people will vote for only one person.

South Tahoe PUD seats will also be up.

The filing for November opens in mid-July.

Now is the time for the locals to start over and rid the City of these three and start new with a Majority on the Council that thinks of the people and not themselves.

In addition to candidates, an important issue will also be on the June ballet- Measure L (the Library tax). Why will I vote “Yes” on Measure L? I am probably one of the most a-political people I know, however, I feel very strongly about this measure to support our South Lake Tahoe Library. I have seen, firsthand, the benefit the library adds to our community: summer arts programs, computer classes, homework help, story time in English and Spanish, book clubs, knitting groups, cultural and educational enrichment lectures, and my favorite, an inter-library book request system that gets you books from any library in the entire county- all free and available to anyone.

Measure L continues the existing library parcel tax we have already been paying. Where else can you get everything a library offers for less than $20 a year or one book on Amazon?

A library opens the world to all of us. It is a wise investment and one I hope everyone makes. That’s why I will vote “Yes” on Measure L.

Just reading the news article about the City being sued over an employe reporting a sex offendder should tell you that the current board should be voted out.

Denise I couldn’t agree more with you.

Libraries are very important to any community.
