AAA Carson City is hosting an open house in conjunction with the Carson City Chamber of Commerce breakfast mixer on Nov. 1.

The fall festival is slated from 9am-4pm.

The AAA branch located at 2901 S. Carson St.  is the closest office to people on the South Shore.

On Tuesday there will be stations designed to inform members and prospects of the various benefits AAA has, including travel advice and how to be safe driving in winter conditions.

The 22nd annual Let’s Talk Turkey Food Distribution and fundraising drive is under way.

Last year, the Incline Village-based nonprofit Project M.A.N.A. helped 325 families, (or 944 individuals), in the area. They received a turkey and all the trimmings to cook a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

Project M.A.N.A.’s goal this year is to raise $25,000 to support the annual Let’s Talk Turkey program and operations. A $50 donation provides a Thanksgiving meal for a local family in need.

Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce will host a go local workshop for retailers on Nov. 3 from 8-9:30am at Tahoe Mountain Lab in South Lake Tahoe.

The event will feature an overview of the business campaign, the benefits, and an audience brainstorming session.

The workshop give retailers the chance to express challenges they experience and how the chamber might better help them face those challenges. Retail consultant Brad Jones will facilitate the event.

For decades Tahoe’s economy was reliant on gaming and the casinos. With those days in the past Lake Tahoe is shifting to a more diverse recreation based economy. Future economic success will come from a variety of sources across industries.

·      The Sugar Pine Foundation this month conducted 13 plantings, engaged over 500 volunteers and planted 4,000 sugar pine seedlings in the Lake Tahoe region. Trees were planted near Northstar and Tahoe Donner neighborhoods, along the bike path in North Tahoe Regional Park and Tunnel Creek, near Lake Ella at Waddle Ranch, near the disc golf course at Zephyr Cove Park, in the Angora burn area, at Sand Harbor and next to North Tahoe Middle School.
