Bread & Broth is looking for donations for its 27th Thanksgiving dinner at St. Theresa Church in South Lake Tahoe.

The Nov. 21 dinner will be from 4-6pm at 1401 Lyons Ave.

The meal is open to all members of the community.

Donations of carrots, celery, mushrooms, onions, oranges, fresh cranberries, sausage, and butter are needed by Nov. 17. Cash will also be accepted. Bring goods to the rectory office between 9am-noon and 1-4pm.

The Zephyr Cove branch of the Douglas County Public Library this month will be providing children’s storytime for ages 3-10.

Storytime will be in the library on Nov. 17, Nov. 23, and Nov. 30 at 3:30pm.

In addition to stories, children may participate in various activities, songs, and coloring.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be enforcing seat belt laws from Nov. 14-Dec. 10.

Deputies will be watching for drivers and other occupants in vehicles who are not wearing their seat belts and children who are not properly secured in car or booster seat.

According to the National Highway Safety Administration, 12,584 lives were saved by wearing seat belts, yet 49 percent of occupants who were killed in 2013 weren’t restrained.

·      South Lake Tahoe is conducting a survey about vacation home rentals.

Carol Van Etten, a student and author of Lake Tahoe history, will be giving a talk on Nov. 15 at 7pm at the Camp Richardson Lodge.

She will talk about the summers she spent at her grandparents’ cabin in Rubicon Bay.

Van Etten has published three books.

The talk is free for Lake Tahoe Historical Society members, $3 for others.

·       Veterans Day will be celebrated Nov. 11 at 11am at the American Legion Hall in South Lake Tahoe.

·       Punk rockers Guttermouth with guests Get Dead & the Cryptics will be at Whiskey Dick’s in South Lake Tahoe on Nov. 13. Doors open at 9pm. Cover is $15.

·       Jim Antti, who has been with the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District for 24 years, has been promoted to assistant chief.

·      Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows will celebrate the inaugural Merry Days & Holly Nights, two weeks of spirited events and activities Dec. 17-31.

·      Richard Blair, singer-songwriter and Truckee resident for 30 years, has created a dinner and show performance about Truckee’ in the late 1800s. For more info, go online.

·       Dingo Weisel will play at Whiskey Dick’s in South Lake Tahoe for free on Dec. 3. Doors open at 9pm.

·       Author John Hindmarsh will be the guest speaker at the South Lake Tahoe AAUW meeting on Nov. 12 at 11:30am in the Aspen room at Lake Tahoe Community College. He will talk about his writing process, including story building, and the challenge a writer faces to deliver an experience to the reader that matches the book’s genre. He will also share his experiences in self-publishing.

·       The Sierra Watercolor Society returns to the Wilbur D. May Museum in Reno with an exhibition of original watercolor paintings. Local and regional artists were asked to paint places they have visited or want to visit, favorite views, special events, and other scenes. The free exhibit runs Nov. 10-Dec. 18.

·      The last day to purchase a U.S. Forest Service fuelwood permit for the Lake Tahoe Basin is Nov. 18, 2016, and the last day to cut wood is Nov. 20.

·       Tahoe Rim Trail Association is putting on two guided hikes the day after Thanksgiving. For more info, go online.

·      The Meyers Community Foundation’s annual tree lighting festival is Dec. 2 from 5-7pm. Santa will be arriving via CalStar helicopter, Lake Valley Fire Department will have its decorated truck, there will be popcorn and hot chocolate, and fun community vibes all evening in the parking lot of Divided Sky-Downtown Café.

·       Sierra Strings of Tahoe will be performing for free at the South Lake Tahoe Library (1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.) on Dec. 3 at 11am.

·       John Hindmarsh, who writes science fiction and thrillers, will be sharing his newest book “Mark Four, Fracture Lines and Diamond Cut” on Dec. 14 at 6pm at the South Lake Tahoe Library (1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.) The reading is free.
