·      Kirkwood Mountain Resort plans to open Nov. 26.

·      The Roemers will play at Whiskey Dicks in South Lake Tahoe for free on Dec. 24. Doors open at 9pm.

·      All proceeds from lift tickets purchased at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows on opening day (Nov. 23) will benefit Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows Foundation (SAF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing scholarships to Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows athletes and coaches.

·      Stateline’s Weidinger PR received awards for each of its three entries in the Public Relations Society of America, Sierra Nevada Chapter Silver Spikes Awards. ·       Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows has partnered with Alpenglow Expeditions to provide lift-accessed guided backcountry skiing and snowboarding in terrain immediately surrounding the ski resort.

·      The merging Park 968 and Park Tahoe Inn into one hotel is just about complete. The Joie de Vivre run hotel in South Lake Tahoe is now Hotel Becket. It will open in December.

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless is seeking volunteers to staff the warm room this winter.

Nevada Highway Patrol has a seat belt campaign going on now through Dec. 10.

During this time, the officers will be watching for drivers and other occupants in vehicles who are not wearing their seat belts and/or children who are not properly secured in car or booster seats. Deputies will be stopping drivers for traffic offenses and issuing citations for seat belt violations if unbuckled.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 12,584 lives were saved by wearing seat belts, yet 49 percent of occupants who were killed in 2013 weren’t restrained.

El Dorado County Animal Services has several older cats that need homes.

Many of these cats are 2 years older or younger. All cat adoptions offered through Animal Services’ shelters are $42.

All cats available for adoption at the shelters are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, tested for leukemia and given a health exam.

The shelter in Meyers is at 1120 Shakori Drive and is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30am-noon and 1-4:30pm. The shelter in Diamond Spring is located at 6435 Capitol Ave. and is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30am-4:30pm.

Light Up a Life is hosted by Barton Health’s hospice staff to honor those who have died.

It is a nondenominational ceremony to share readings and a remembrance message. The event will culminate with the lighting of tree decorated with photo ornaments honoring individuals lost.

The event is Dec. 6 from 6-7pm in the North Room at Edgewood Tahoe.

To have a loved one included, mail hospice staff a wallet-sized photo with the name of the person on the back to Barton Hospice, 2092 Lake Tahoe Blvd, Suite 500, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150 by Nov. 28.

·      League to Save Lake Tahoe is having a holiday open house on Dec. 15 from 5:30-8:30pm at its offices in South Lake Tahoe. Bring a jar or cup to transform it into a keepsake. Canned food and new toy donations will be collected.

·      The Triumph Development hotel and residential project has been continued to a future meeting of the Truckee Planning Commission; most likely to December.

·      George Runner, state Board of Equalization member, will speak at the Taxpayers Association of El Dorado County meeting on Nov. 21 at 7:30am. The meeting is at 99 Fair Lane in Placerville.

·      The California Wildlife Conservation Board approved $2.2 million to acquire approximately 624 acre-feet of water and storage rights in Heenan Lake for protection of the Lahontan cutthroat trout fishery located near Markleeville. The money comes from bond measures approved by voters to help preserve and protect California’s natural resources.

·   Boreal ski resort is opening Nov. 18.

·       Deadlines for Christmas delivery of mail to U.S. Military and APO/FPO depend on the destination. For most destinations, the following cutoff dates apply: Priority packages and first-class cards and letters is Dec. 9, while priority express mail is Dec. 16.
