Achieve Tahoe, a leading provider of winter and summer adaptive sports instruction at all ability levels for adults and children with disabilities, will host its annual Ability Bash fundraising event on Jan. 28 from 6-10pm at the Squaw Valley Conference Center.

This evening caps a weeklong Military Sports Camp for disabled veterans and celebrates their achievements as well as those of all the participants with disabilities who work with Achieve Tahoe throughout the year.

Tickets for the Ability Bash can be purchased online for $150 per person, or a table for 10 for $1,500. Led by master of ceremonies, Andy Wirth, president and CEO of Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, the evening will feature dinner, fine wines, craft beer, silent auction and raffle, as well as personal stories from Military Camp and Achieve Tahoe participants and more.

The South Lake Tahoe Recreation Facilities Joint Powers Authority is seeking applicants to the Bicycle Advisory Committee as required by Measure R.

Four of the seven positions are open. Terms are for two years.

Committee meetings are usually the first Wednesday of each month from 9-11am.

·       Cindy Gustafson of the Tahoe City Public Utility District was named general manager of the year by the California Special Districts Association.

·       Ellen Raynor, founder and CEO of KeepOnMovin’, will explore the why and how of hiring and working with contract developers, provide tips and tricks, and will compare options using case studies in startups, small businesses and large companies. ·       Part of a nationwide movement by writers to reclaim democracy, The Biggest Little Protest Reading on Jan. 15 from 2-5pm will include readings by local poets and writers, including a multi-participant reading of James Baldwin and an all-ages open mic session. ·       The Douglas County Public Library will be showing “The Magnificent Seven” (rated PG-13) on Jan. 14 at 10:30am in the Minden Library meeting room. This movie is geared toward adults and teens. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided.

·      TOCCATA — Tahoe Symphony Orchestra & Chorus’ 12th WinterFest’s Jan. 4 performance in Incline Village has been canceled. It has been rescheduled for Jan. 10 at 7pm.

·       A Go Fund Me account has been set up for one of the families displaced in the New Year’s Eve fire in Round Hill.

Steven Gross and Aparna Reddy of Porter Simon will be giving a presentation Jan. 19 about California’s new labor laws for 2017.

The talk is presented by the Truckee Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Sierra Business Council’s Small Business Development Center.

Animal Coalition of Tahoe’s Pizza for Pups dinner at Blue Dog Pizza – Midtown is Jan. 25 from 6-8pm.

In the past 10 years, ACT  has helped more than 1,750 area families spay and neuter their pets.

For $10 per person ($5 for kids under 12) supporters may dine on Blue Dog’s many different gourmet pizzas, served family style. Beer and wine are available for purchase, as will be salads and all other menu items.

Proceeds benefit this South Lake Tahoe nonprofit that is run entirely by volunteers.

There will also be a raffle.

·       On Jan. 1, the California sales and use tax rate decreased one quarter of 1 percent to 7.25 percent. Proposition 30, The Schools and Local Public Safety Protection Act of 2012 that was approved by voters in November 2012 to temporarily increase the sales and use tax by 0.25 percent expired Dec. 31.
