South Lake Tahoe officials have scheduled another workshop on vacation home rentals. It will be Jan. 25 from 6-8pm at the senior center.

The city is conducting a study of vacation home rentals. The goal is to find out how they affect residents and the surrounding neighborhood.

The input will help the city better understand its role regarding vacation rentals, and make decisions on future policies and regulations.

Kings Beach is going to be part of the greater women’s marches on Jan. 21.

The march in support of justice and equal rights is open to anyone. People are encouraged to bring signs.

The group, which organizers hope will be at least 200 strong, will start at noon at the North Tahoe Event Center. A hospitality room at the center will open at 11:30am. The march will make a loop going to the boat ramp and returning to NTEC.

It is expected to last until about 2pm.

·       Zephyr Cove Library is providing children’s storytime every Wednesday at 11:30am. In addition to stories, there will be activities, songs, and coloring.

·       Nevada has two dogs participating in the Puppy Bowl on Feb. 5.

·      Tahoe Cross Country is having a demo day on Feb. 11 from 10am-3pm.

·      Southwest will fly daily between Reno-Tahoe and San Jose starting in June.

·      Share experiences and get support from others on the journey to a tobacco-free life on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30pm at 1077B 4th St., South Lake Tahoe. Sign up online under support groups. 

Rebates are still available in Truckee for the removal of non-compliant solid fuel burning devices, including woodstoves and fireplace inserts.

Available rebates are $600 for replacement of a non-compliant solid fuel burning device with a Phase II EPA certified woodstove or pellet stove, and $1,000 for replacement of a non-compliant solid fuel burning device with natural gas service, for up to $1,600 per residential unit. 

The rebates are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and will expire once the $64,000 in Air Quality Mitigation Funds have been exhausted.

El Dorado County Teen Court is recruiting students for the spring Teen Court program.

The program operates in Placerville and South Lake Tahoe for grades 8-12. After completing mandatory orientation training, teens serve as personnel in real court cases in which a minor has committed an offense, admitted to that offense and chosen to be judged for sentencing by their peers.  

There will be an orientation training Jan. 19 from 5-7pm at El Dorado County Superior Court, located at 1354 Johnson Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe. Arrive by 4:45pm for check-in. Courtroom attire is required.

Teen Court hearings in South Lake Tahoe will be February through April on scheduled Thursday nights. Students will receive a calendar of hearing dates at orientation training.

·      South Lake Tahoe is looking for someone to serve on the El Dorado County Commission on Aging. The commission meets the third Thursday of each month (except July and December) from 9:30am-noon at various locations throughout the county. Applications are online and are due Feb. 1. 

·      +Impact School and Tahoe Expedition Academy have teamed up with Project MANA to create Project MANA-TEA. The goal of this year-long project is to stamp out hunger in the North Tahoe and Truckee region by raising 1 pound of food and $1 for every Kings Beach resident, for a total of $3,796 and 3,796 pounds of food. Students and staff at +Impact School and TEA will host a community-wide spaghetti feed on Jan. 16 from12:30-2:30pm at the Boys & Girls Club in Kings Beach, 8125 Steelhead Ave. Suggested donation is $5 and one can of food per person.

·      Comedian and impressionist Justin Rupple will be at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe on Jan. 14 at 8pm. Tickers are $10. Must be 21 to attend. 

·      Tahoe Truckee Unified School District is going to start having two-hour late starts when there has been significant snow during the night that ends or is expected to end by 5am.

·      Placer County’s Community Development Resource Agency’s Lake Tahoe office will have reduced office hours in January while staff participates in training. The office will be closed Thursdays from 10am-2pm through Jan. 26.

·      There will be a cocktail snowshoe race at the Beacon restaurant on the South Shore on Jan. 21 at 7pm, with signups starting at 5pm. No cost to enter.
