·       Lake Tahoe Community College and Lake Tahoe Unified School District boards of education will meet together on March 28 at 5pm at the college.

·       El Dorado County is accepting nominations for senior of the year. Must be at least 60. Nomination forms are available online. 

·      There will be a blood drive on March 3 starting at 11am at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center, 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.

Snowfest Ladies’ Night Out Bunco Bash will raise money for the Gene Upshaw Cancer Center in Truckee, as well as for Tyler Whisler.

The 10-year-old Tahoe boy is being treated for a brain tumor. His dad, Allan, is a battalion chief with North Tahoe Fire Protection District; his mom, Jill, had to quit her hospital job to take of him.

The event is March 8 at 5:30pm at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach. Cost is $25. 

Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce’s After Five Mixer on Feb. 23 will also be a fundraiser for former board member and Getaway Reno Tahoe owner Todd Poth and his family.

The Poth’s 5-month-old daughter, Ayah, is currently fighting for her life at the Salt Lake Primary Children’s Hospital. In an effort to ease the family’s traveling and lodging costs, all proceeds from the event raffle will benefit them.

The mixer at that the Beacon restaurant in Camp Richardson from 5-7:30pm. The cost is $10 for members and $20 for others.

Placer County now has a way for employees to anonymously report suspected fraud, waste and abuse.

Supervisors approved a $6,500 contract with Convercent, a compliance services provider, so workers can make a report by phone or online 24/7.

The contract, as well as the county’s whistleblower program, will be managed by the auditor-controller’s office. 

The whistleblower hotline service will only be available to Placer County employees initially, but is planned to expand to the public. The hotline is expected to be available in early March.

Caltrans is seeking comments on the draft State Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.

The document lays out the policies and actions Caltrans and its partner agencies should take to achieve the department’s statewide goals to double walking and triple bicycling trips by 2020

The draft plan describes four objectives—safety, mobility, preservation and social equity—with corresponding strategies to bring the plan to reality. The intent is to complement local and regional efforts already under way to create and implement their own active transportation networks. 

The comment period will close on March 10. The final plan is anticipated to be completed in April.

El Dorado County Supervisor Sue Novasel is hosting a meeting Feb. 13 to discuss tourist traffic congestion.

There is a growing concern from neighborhood residents regarding online map applications that redirect travelers off the main roads and highways, and onto local roads and into neighborhoods.

Representatives from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol will also be in attendance.

The meeting will be at the CCC headquarters in Meyers in the upstairs conference room starting at 6pm.
