The El Dorado County Senior Nutrition Program is looking for volunteers for the home delivered meal program.

Each volunteer generally works one a week on an assigned route, delivering meals between 10:30am and noon.

Volunteers who cannot provide a weekly commitment may serve as back-up drivers.

Orientation sessions for new volunteer drivers will be:

• May 8, 1-2 pm at the Placerville Senior Center, 937 Spring St., Placerville.
• May 23, 10:30-11:30am at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County elected officials have rescheduled the April 13 senior center meeting.

It will now be April 20 at 1:30pm at the senior center in South Lake Tahoe.

The meeting is being billed as an opportunity to identify the future needs of the senior center.

Liberty Utilities will host an electric vehicle summit April 24 featuring presentations by key stakeholders and displays of Tesla vehicles, a Proterra 40- foot electric bus, and a ChargePoint EV charging station.

Liberty Utilities is hosting this event to share information about an application to be submitted this summer to the California Public Utilities Commission. The proposed program would encourage electric vehicle use through the installation of EV charging stations at public locations and incentives for residential/commercial customers to install charging stations.

There will also be presentations by the Tahoe Regional Planning Authority to discuss the Regional EV Readiness Plan, ChargePoint and Clipper Creek to discuss the latest in charging technology, Tahoe Transportation District to share the Electric Bus Project, and Proterra to talk about the latest electric bus on the market.

Check in at the North Tahoe Events Center in Kings Beach starts at 8:30am, with presentations from 9am-12:30pm, interaction with vendors and test drives from 12:30-2pm.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Explorer Post No. 2105 walked away with 13 trophies at the Central Coast Law Enforcement Exploring Competition on April 7-9 in California. 

The DCSO Explorers competed against 21 police, sheriff and highway patrol explorer posts. The 19 scenarios included felony car stops, shooting skills, written exams, oral interviews, suspicious persons and physical agility. 

DCSO earned second place overall.

·      The Roberta Mason Library at Lake Tahoe Community College has increased its e-book collection from 159,000 to 212,000 volumes.

·      El Dorado County has hired Carla Hass to be communications director.

·      South Tahoe Association of Realtors donated 80 Easter baskets to the Family Resource Center and Live Violence Free Center in South Lake Tahoe.

·      People can start moving into the 30 condos at Zalanta in South Lake Tahoe on May 1. Another 60 condos are scheduled to be built. The restaurant space is still vacant. Vail Resorts, which owns Heavenly ski resort across the street, will operate a 24/7 front desk and ski valet in addition to managing the homeowners’ association and vacation rental program.

Sierra Club Tahoe Area Group is hosting an interactive meeting to resist the current erosion of environmental protections the club has worked so hard to achieve.

Organizers will discuss local issues and what’s looming in the future for the Lake Tahoe-Truckee region. Participation from members and non-members is encouraged.

The meeting will be April 26, 6-8pm at North Tahoe Event Center, 8318 North Lake Blvd., Kings Beach.

The $5 parking fee will be waived for attendees.

·      The Bureau of Reclamation plans to restart work at Stampede Dam next month resulting in the need to close the section of Dog Valley Road over the dam this week. Closure will be from the Stampede Meadows Road and Dog Valley Road intersection to the Emigrant Group Campground entrance on Dog Valley Road. Public access to Stampede Reservoir will be along Hobart Mills and Dog Valley Road.

The Nevada Division of Forestry is seeking applications for the Volunteer Fire Assistance grant program.

Approximately $200,000 from the U.S. Forest Service’s State and Private Forestry program will be available for rural (local and volunteer) fire departments statewide. The purpose of this funding is to improve rural fire departments’ readiness for and response to wildfires, particularly those in the wildland urban interface.

Funds must be used to purchase wildland fire personal protective equipment, new generation fire shelters, P25-compliant radios, and other supplies such as fire hoses. The division is also requesting a prioritized list of each department’s wildland fire training and wildland apparatus needs/requests for future funding opportunities.

Applications must be submitted on the application form that has been mailed directly to individual fire departments or found on the Nevada Division of Forestry website.

Applications must be received by the Nevada Division of Forestry no later than 5pm June 1.
