Tahoe Women’s Community Fund’s second annual Grants Gala will be May 18 from 6-9pm at Tahoe Beach Retreat in South Lake Tahoe.
In addition to the 2017 grant winners being announced, the 2016 grantees will return to share how they spent the TWCF’s giving funds. This year $29,000 in grants are being handed out; bringing the two-year total to more than $50,000.
Tickets are $35 online. A limited number will be sold.
Lake Tahoe-Truckee nonprofits will benefit from Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz and his wife, Elana’s, $1.6 million donation to causes where the company does business.
The South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center and Tahoe Truckee Community Collaborative will each receive $125,000.
Through this grant, the South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center, in partnership with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District and the El Dorado Food Bank, will be able to provide a summer food program for approximately 150 children in need over the next three years.
The collaborative’s grant will support the development of the wellness program, a school-based program designed to improve the health and wellness of high school students, including targeting substance abuse and mental health issues. More than 400 students across the school district will be served through this program.

· Your Nevada Workspace’s grand opening is April 25 from 5-7pm at 195 Highway 50, Zephyr Cove. Attendees will have an opportunity to tour the workspace and learn more about services and amenities offered.
· The South Tahoe Public Utility District is having a public workshop May 4 from 6-7:30pm to discuss the 2017-18 budget, as well the 10-year financial and capital improvement plan for the district. The board is scheduled to take action on the budget May 18 at 2pm. The meeting is at 1275 Meadow Crest Drive, South Lake Tahoe.
· The Kinsey Sicks, a dragapella beauty shop quartet, will be at The Loft in South Lake Tahoe from June 19-23.
· Leap Frog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health care system, gave Barton Memorial Hospital an A for its commitment to reducing errors, infections, and accidents. This is the third consecutive A Barton Hospital has received.
· Douglas is seeking public feedback through a quick survey of residents in Douglas, Lyon, Alpine, and Storey counties about how information was disseminated this winter about the flooding issues.
· Lake Valley Fire’s inaugural commendation ceremony will be April 15, 6pm at Lake Tahoe Golf Course in Meyers.
· The Who will play at Harveys in Stateline on Aug. 16 at 8pm.
· On April 16 Sugar Bowl Resort is having an Easter Keg Hunt for guests ages 21 and older starting at 10am. For kids 6-12 they may hunt for candy-filled eggs hidden around Nob Hill at 9am.
Hundreds of businesses and community leaders gathered at the Resort at Squaw Creek to celebrate the 63rd annual North Lake Tahoe Chamber Awards Dinner. The event celebrates businesses, organizations and individuals who have had a significant impact on North Lake Tahoe during 2016.
This year, the North Lake Tahoe Chamber Resort Association gave special recognition to Liberty Utilities, the Placer County Public Works & Facilities and the Placer County Sheriff’s Department for their heroic efforts during snowmageddon 2017.

Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce and Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority’s annual Tourism Forum will focus on the global traveler.
The forum aims to prepare the South Shore tourism industry to better serve global travelers. According to Visit California, 17,000,000 global travelers visited California in 2015. Understanding how to attract this demographic and leverage their unique travel tendencies is vital to strengthening your sales force, business, and the community.
The Welcoming the Global Guest: Tourism + Breakfast Forum will feature speaker Kristine Tsusaki-Reddick, director of Client Relations at Visit California, who will provide a market update on California’s tourism industry with a focus on international travel trends in the California market. Keynote speaker will be Daniel Crain, VP of Education and Training at BRIC Marketing.

Truckee Donner Public Utility District is issuing a warning about scammers claiming to be collections agents.
Callers are impersonating the utility company claiming that an account is delinquent and must be paid immediately by a pre-paid debit card, credit card or money transfer. If refused, the caller will threaten disconnection from a remote location or after normal business hours.
Here are a few facts:
TDPUD recommends hanging up on the caller immediately. If a scammer contacts you or if you feel that a crime has been committed, report the incident to your local law enforcement agency. Call 530.587.3896 during normal business hours and ask for the status of your account.
· Through June, Squaw Valley will offer a number of youth training camps. Details are available online.
· Tahoe Transportation District has closed the Y transit center in South Lake Tahoe because of vandalism and homeless people sleeping there. Buses still service the center.
· Sen. Dean Heller and Rep. Mark Amodei, both Nevada Republicans, will have a joint town hall on April 17 from 9-11am at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, Room C1 to discuss health care and immigration.

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals is hosting a gathering April 19 centered on recreational marijuana in California and Nevada.
The panel of local and regional experts including: Lori Ajax, chief of the Bureau of Medical Cannabis Regulation for California; Sherellen Brook Gerhart, physician from Barton Memorial Hospital; South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler; local dispensary owner Cody Bass, and more. Each panelist will face a round of moderator questions followed by an open question and answer session with the audience.

Clean Tahoe is organizing a clean up effort for May 6.
South Tahoe residents will be cleaning up roadside and neighborhood litter that’s quickly becoming visible from the melting snow.
