Writing Escape Workshop: A three-hour workshop on a weekend from 10am to 1pm in downtown Truckee.

Play with language and meaning in several writing prompts, generate new material, explore craft, and inspire ourselves to develop a consistent writing practice. Each workshop is different and involves much writing.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District is soliciting applications for appointment to the Measure G Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee. Applicants must be a registered voter and reside within the LTUSD boundaries.

The Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee is responsible for the following:

* Report to the community whether Measure G funds are spent on projects listed in the Measure G Project List and that no funds are used for salaries or general school operating expenses.

* Follow and monitor Measure G projects.

* Receive and review copies of the annual performance and financial audits of Measure G projects as required by Proposition 39.

* Inspect school facilities and grounds for compliance with Proposition 39.

* Review deferred maintenance plans.

* Provide information to the public on the progress of Measure G projects.

Flying your own plane to the Winter Games in February? It will take some planning.

Reno-Tahoe International Airport is one of three airports in the U.S. designated as an Olympic Portal airport for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.

Reno-Tahoe has three fixed based operators to assist pilots headed for the Games.

The reason for the portals is to have a handle on security, manage air space and parking.

Reservations must be made by private or corporate aircraft planning to fly into Vancouver for the Olympics. This can be done at www.2010airportreservations.ca.

Canadian officials predict nearly 500 aircraft will land in British Columbia each day during the two weeks of the Games.

Three veteran South Lake Tahoe firefighters retired in December. Combined, they had nearly 70 years of experience. Capt. Jeffery Valney served 27 years, Capt. Steve served for 21 years and engineer Roger Koeck also served for 21 years.

South Tahoe Refuse will have regular garbage service on New Year’s Day.

Christmas trees will picked up until Jan. 8 for no extra charge. Trees should not be taller than 6 feet.

As of Jan. 1, the El Dorado County marriage license index is no longer a public record. You will need a notarized application for all license copies. Applications can be found in the download section of the website. The new fee is $14 per copy.
