U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will begin prescribed fire operations on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe in the Meeks Bay Canyon area beginning Jan. 12 and continuing throughout the next two weeks as weather and staffing allow.
Residents and travelers can expect to see smoke from prescribed fire project areas.
Other fire protection agencies, state and local, may also be conducting prescribed fire operations during this period.
El Dorado County Public Health is having free H1N1 flu vaccination walk-in clinics for the general public this month.
The vaccine will be administered subject to availability.
The H1N1 vaccination walk-in clinics are every Wednesday in January from 1-4pm p.m. to 4 p.m. at 1360 Johnson Blvd., Ste. 103, South Lake Tahoe.

The U.S. Census Bureau needs people in South Lake Tahoe to collect data.
Hiring may begin as soon as the end of January, with training starting in February. Jobs will be part time, temporary, and with pay starting at $15 per hour.

Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is attempting to save $100,000 with six scheduled furlough days starting this week.
This comes on the heels of having shutdown Dec. 24-Jan. 3.
Nevada is cutting its contribution to the bi-state regulatory agency, applications are less than robust and investment income is off, so TRPA needs to find a way to save.
