·      One percent of revenues from Heavenly Mountain Resort’s Epic Discovery activities will go to the Nature Conservancy’s Forest Initiative to fund ecological restoration and conservation projects managed by the agency. 

Truckee is the beneficiary from the latest round of California Transportation Commission funding.

In all, $328 million will pay for 88 transportation projects that are designed to alleviate traffic delays, repair aging roads and bridges and encourage bicycling and walking.

The money comes from Senate Bill 1, which increases funding for transportation infrastructure projects and road repairs.

The $905,000 for Truckee will be used to construct class II bike lanes, sidewalks, crosswalks, curb ramps and curb bump-outs on Glenshire Drive near the Truckee River Legacy Trail trailhead.

·      The League to Save Lake Tahoe’s Forest Stewardship Day will be June 10 from 8:30am-12:30pm. Participants will work in the Angora Burn area to improve trails and continue to thin brush to give light to young trees. Two on-ramps and one exit ramp to and from westbound Interstate 80  in Truckee will be closed May 23-25, from 7am-5pm.

Caltrans will perform concrete grinding work on the ramps as well as freeway lanes. The on-ramps to westbound I-80 to be closed are from Highway 89 just north of the freeway, as well as the ramp from Donner Pass Road near the Coachland round-about. The off-ramp to be closed is the Central Truckee exit (No. 186) to Donner Pass Road.

The repair work will also require alternating lane closures of three lanes on westbound I-80 between the Highway 89 interchange and the Central Truckee exit.

Expect local street congestion as well as delays on westbound I-80.

Truckee Donner Public Utility District has resumed its tree trimming program for the season.

The district has spent nearly $2.5 million in the past decade to remove trees and branches near power lines.

Trees growing into power lines or falling during storms creates the risk of fire and power outages. The TDPUD trims or removes trees to maintain the required clearance between the TDPUD’s energized power lines and vegetation. TDPUD maintains trees for approximately 134 miles of the overhead power lines that they operate and follows a set tree trimming calendar cycle.

Trimming and maintaining the health of trees on private property, including trees near the secondary overhead power line connected to homes and businesses, is the property owners’ responsibility. TDPUD, if called and requested, will de-energize the secondary power line at no charge while the property owner does this work.

·      Happy Homestead Cemetery in South Lake Tahoe will dedicate its public safety memorial wall on May 19 at 1pm.

·      Truckee High School’s senior fashion show is May 21 at 6pm. Doors open at 5pm.

·      Due to the severity of ground water and water runoff on the Incline Village Championship Course, the course’s opening date is now May 26.

·      Douglas County School District board of education is having a public hearing regarding the 2017-18 budget on May 24 at 5pm at the Airport Training Center in Minden.

·      On May 20, Tahoe Expedition Academy will host a first responder appreciation barbecue at the Tahoe Vista Recreation Area. Money raised will benefit C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors) and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The event is from 10am-3pm.

Muscles with Motion, an international group of multi-cultural, multi-talented and multi-lingual male performers from around the world, will be at the Tahoe Biltmore in Crystal Bay on June 3.

The show is filled with singing, dancing and aerial erotica with performances by sculpted male entertainers. It is a fully choreographed audience participation male burlesque show.

The show starts at 9pm. Tickets are $20.

TAMBA’s spring party is May 19 at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Lodge.

It is free and family friendly.

All the trail projects for the season will be talked about.happening this year. There will be info on upcoming projects including Corral, Valley View, Angora and Fallen Leaf Lake, Bijou Bike Park, Belli, Tamarak, Burton Creek SP and more.

Plus, there will be a bike film, raffle, membership drive, and Heavenly will be putting on a full spread pasta dinner. It all starts at 6pm.

Eleven youth detained at the Juvenile Treatment Center in South Lake Tahoe recently received their American Heart Association CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) and AED (automatic external defibrillator) certifications.  

The course was made possible through the private/public partnerships of the Juvenile Service Council, Lake Valley Fire Protection District, El Dorado County Juvenile Treatment Center, and the Blue Ridge Court School of El Dorado County. This was the first time that the course was offered to the youth at the facility. They also received school course credit. 

“I was impressed with the level of focus and engagement in the material that these young people showed. I hope that the training will resonate with some of the participants to give them the confidence in themselves to pursue a career path they might not have otherwise thought about,” instructor Tony Gasporra, EMS lieutenant with Lake Valley Fire Protection District, said.
