·      On June 15 at 6pm the Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District board will be discussing whether to request that the El Dorado Local Agency Formation Commission convert the district from a resort improvement district to a recreation and park district. The meeting will be at the park.

·      Douglas County received the state’s highest Park Excellence award for the planning, design and construction of the community and senior center in the valley.

Ike and Martin will be the featured duo at a fundraiser June 26 for METAvivor, a nonprofit that raises money for research into stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.

METAvivor is unique in that 100 percent of donations go to research. Since its founding in 2009, METAvivor has funded $2.4 million in grants and in 2017 will fund $1 million, and $2 million in 2018.

Local retired obgyn Kelly Shanahan is a reviewer for the grants. The review panel includes scientists and breast oncologists as well as metastatic advocates like Shanahan.

The concert will be at Lake Village in Stateline from 5:30-8:30pm. BYOB and chair; finger food provided. Minimum donation for admission is $20 and tickets can be purchased online, as well as at the door.

There is also a raffle for three nights at a Deer Valley ski condo; valued at $5,000. Fifty tickets at $100 a piece will be sold.

·      A Reading Paws therapy dog will be at the Douglas County Public Library in Minden every Thursday from June 15-July 27 between 10:30am-noon.

·      According to Kiplinger, Gardnerville Ranchos and Truckee-Grass Valley are in the top 10 for small towns with the most number of millionaires. Gardnerville has 1,445 and Truckee-Grass Valley 3,007.

·      At the meeting June 13 in Auburn, the Placer County Board of Supervisors will consider adoption of a draft $796 million budget for the next fiscal year starting July 1.

·      El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office has a website dedicated to the unsolved homicides in the county dating back to the 1960s. Motorists can expect traffic delays on June 17 because of the Rock Tahoe Half Marathon.

The running event goes from Spooner Summit to the Hard Rock in Stateline.

To keep the runners safe, the lakeside lane of westbound Highway 50 will be closed from the top of Spooner Summit to the bike trail at Round Hill Pines. Additionally, vehicle traffic at Logan Creek will be intermittently stopped, allowing one-way traffic through the slide area.

The lane closure will be in effect from 6-11am, with significant delays at Logan Creek from 7:30-9am. Consider Kingsbury Grade during this time.

Additionally, access into or out of the peripheral streets and driveways may be prolonged at times.

·      June 10 is the one day of the year when people may fish in any public water in Nevada without a fishing license.
