·      Lake Tahoe Community College is hosting a career summit on June 23, 8am-4pm in the commons. This is an opportunity to learn how to get hired. There will be interactive breakout sessions led by industry professionals, and local community business leaders and organizations; plus, mock job interviews, and one-on-one resume review sessions. ·      South Lake Tahoe Library will host Wild Things Inc. on June 23 at 2pm. The free outdoor show will be at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe. Wild Things Inc. will bring a mix of wild animals and share with children a message of conservation and appreciation for wild animals.

·      Aviation Roundup Air Show on Oct. 7-8 at the Minden-Tahoe Airport will feature the Air Force Thunderbirds.

·      No fishing licenses required in California on July 1 and Sept. 2.

·      Mountain Area Preservation received at $5,000 grant from Clif Bar Family Foundation to support the nonprofit’s work in the Truckee-North Lake Tahoe region.

Mountain Area Preservation is hosting an event on June 21 to educate people about Martis Valley West, the development along Highway 267.

It will be at 5pm at Mellow Fellow, 10192 Donner Pass Road in downtown Truckee.

The event will feature a 3D model of the proposed development, a video simulation of the project’s impacts, and regional experts who can speak to the specific issues surrounding this project. There will be beer specials and a raffle.

All proceeds will offset the expenses Mountain Area Preservation is incurring in its fight against Martis Valley West.

Mountain Area Preservation is an environmental advocacy nonprofit organization based in Truckee.

The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors on June 20 is expected to adopt the 2017-18 budget.

Special presentations that day will be as follows:
9am – Senior legal services
10am – Road work plan
11am – Mental Health Services Act.

At 2pm, the electeds will discuss the whole budget.

The meeting will be in the board Hearing Room at 330 Fair Lane, Placerville.

·      Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care needs snap-trapped or live trapped (never poisoned) mice/voles to feed their 10 great-horned owls, two barn owls and two red-tailed hawks. Put mice in baggy and freeze them. The animal rehab center will take fish of any size – fresh or frozen – to feed the two river otters.

·      Sarah Hockensmith of the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science returns to the South Lake Tahoe Library on June 20 at 6pm to talk about the diverse wildflowers of the Tahoe region. She will cover the basic structures of flowers, some of the best locations to find wildflowers at Lake Tahoe, and what wildflowers to expect at those locations. The talk is free; the library is on Rufus Allen Boulevard.

·      Erika Cole Gillette, a former faculty member and administrator at Sierra Nevada College, has started Writing Rockstar. In addition to college admissions counseling, she offers a full spectrum of academic coaching services, from simple tutoring to supervised one-on-one accountability programs.

·      The Douglas County Public Library presents storytime at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on June 30 at 11am. Children of all ages are invited to the Minden ranch.

·      Spencer McLaughlin, who lived in Douglas County and Smith Valley during his youth, is the newest Douglas County sheriff’s deputy.

South Lake Tahoe Library is hosting a summer reading challenge.

Children, teens and adults of all ages may participate in the reading challenge from June 20-Aug. 26.

Register and log activities online. There is an opportunity to win a prize for every five books read.

There will be a talk called Living with Wildlife on June 21 in Incline Village.

People will learn how to protect their pets, home, and property from wildlife — from mice to bears to mountain lions.

Rebecca Dmytryk, the founder of Human Wildlife Control Association, and Madonna Dunbar, resource conservationist for IVGID, will be the speakers.

The talk starts at 6pm at the UC Davis Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Incline Village.

On June 27, members of the California Highway Patrol South Lake Tahoe office, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, and community members will come together informally to discuss community issues, have coffee, and build relationships.

All community members are invited to attend. The event goes from 9-11am at Alpina Coffee Cafe on Emerald Bay Road.

This is an opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the various departments.

The idea is to improve relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.

As part of the Wild Tahoe Weekend, the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will host the seventh annual Lake Tahoe Bird Festival on June 25.

Located at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center on Highway 89, this is a free family event from 10am-3:30pm.

The event includes hourly guided bird walks along the Rainbow Trail, information and presentations on migratory birds, bird crafts and games, bird house building, live birds, and more.

Various local agencies will be participating, including California State Parks, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care and more.

Beer with your Best Friend at South Lake Brewing Company is a fundraiser for the Animal Coalition of Tahoe.

Leashed dogs are welcome at the brewery on Lake Tahoe Boulevard on June 20 from 6-9pm.

A portion of the proceeds to will go to ACT so the nonprofit can continue its spay-neuter program for Tahoe locals.

There will also be a raffle. Order pizza to be delivered by Blue Dog with no delivery charge.

The annual Day in Paradise fundraiser for the Optimist Club is June 17.

The day starts with a pancake breakfast at 8am.

The highlight of the event — the duck races — are from 10am-2pm.

There will be live music, games, food and beer garden throughout the day. The event ends at 6pm.

All the festivities are at Tahoe Paradise Park on the South Shore.
