Telephone scammers are posing as Liberty Utilities’ collections representative and threatening to shut off people’s power if payment is not made within a specified period of time.

Sometimes the caller has specific customer information such as last payment amount. Liberty is unaware of how this information has been obtained.

Liberty Utilities warns its customers not to respond to a payment demand of this type. Liberty Utilities representatives do not place such calls or send emails to customers demanding payment.

·      According to a Pew Research Center survey, 53 percent of millennials went to a public library or bookmobile in the last year. It makes since because this is the generation that shares. Millennials out of all generations are the most likely to use a library, at least in the U.S.

National Night Out is Aug. 1, 4-8pm at the Environmental Science Magnet School in Meyers.

This is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

National Night Out is designed to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.

Forget the masterpiece, celebrate the disasterpiece.

The Douglas County Public Library is hosting two bad art events for adults as part of the adult summer reading program.  The Zephyr Cove Library will have a Bad Art Night on July 26 at 5pm. The Minden Library Bad Art program will be July 29 at 10am. 

Each participant will create a work of bad art, and all participants will vote on the “best” bad art piece.  The artist with the best of the worst will receive a trophy and a prize.  All “art” supplies will be provided.

The Minden Library is located at 1625 Library Lane. The Zephyr Cove Library is located at 233 Warrior Way. 

The Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association is stepping up efforts to educate more local business about water quality.

In an effort to reach out and educate business that provide services in the

Tahoe Keys is hosting a lunch and learn on July 18 from noon-1pm to educate businesses that provide services to this South Lake Tahoe development. It will be at the pavilion common are.

The event will focus on educating landscaping, rental and hot tub companies on the rules and regulations in place in the Keys that protect the waterways and help their customers avoid fees for infractions.

BloodSource is putting on a blood drive July 28 in South Lake Tahoe.

The drive is sponsored by the Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Walk-ins are welcome. 

Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be at least 16 years old (16 and 17 year olds will need a signed parental consent form) and be generally healthy. There is no upper age limit for blood donations. Donors must bring a photo ID and should drink plenty of fluids before donating.

The drive will be at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center from noon-5pm.
