The 7th annual Mutt Strut is Oct. 9 in South Lake Tahoe.

The 1.2 mile walk involves trying to build the best poker hand as you and your four-legged friend meander around the South Shore.

Registration begins at 11am at Lake Tahoe Psychic, 3131 Harrison Ave.

The Sept. 25 Lake Tahoe Marathon will mean delays for motorists as runners take over highways in the basin.

Caltrans says expect 10-30 delays from 6:30am-1:30pm from the junction of highways 89 and 28 in Tahoe City to Spring Creek Road for those headed south.

The northbound lane of Highway 89 will be closed during that same time period.

Caltrans paving operations are expected to cause delays Sept. 24 from noon-8pm on Highway 28.

Expect eastbound and westbound lane closures from National Avenue to the junction of highway 267 and 28.

This paving is part of a 9.4 mile $46 million environmental improvement project from Lake Tahoe State Park to Highway 28 and Chipmunk Street to the California-Nevada state in North Lake Tahoe.

The Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation in Incline Village is looking for 15 entities which would each receive $1,000.

The idea is to help nonprofits in the Lake Tahoe Basin before the holiday season.

Members of the Boys & Girls Club joined thousands of club members across the country in celebration of the National Boys & Girls Club Day for Kids on Sept. 16.

Each year clubs designate a day in September for their members and families to celebrate. With support from the South Lake Tahoe Police and the Community Service departments, members participated in a parade, games, food and lots of fun.

Created as a day to foster relationships between adults and children, the mission of the Boys & Girls Club Day for Kids is to establish a day to celebrate and honor children through the gift of meaningful time. Research shows that when adults spend meaningful time with kids it helps them develop a positive self-image and a sense of belonging, usefulness and purpose.

Flu shots and pneumonia vaccinations for the public are $20 for per flu shot and $35 per pneumonia vaccination. Flu vaccine is free for ages 3-18.

Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Mann, Urrutia, Nelson, CPA & Associates on two workshops.

The first is Oct. 26 at 10am on QuickBooks, with the other being about incorporation on Dec. 7 at 10am.

Both will be in the conference room at the Stateline office of the chamber. Cost is $10 for nonmembers, $5 for members. It includes one hour of consultation for new clients.

David Reichel, wilderness education coordinator for the Wilderness Education Department at Lake Tahoe Community College, will give a presentation on Skiing the High Sierra Route.

He will also discuss the Wilderness Education Program at the college.
