On July 27 at 5:30pm there will be a bullying talk at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation and Swim complex.

The free Strike Out Bullying presentation is provided by Soul Shoppe. The focus will be on teaching youth about the types of bullying, how to stop bullying and why people don’t need to bully.

Soul Shoppe’s mission is to create safe learning environments that bring forth a culture of compassion, connection and curiosity—eliminating bullying at the roots.

The recreation department was awarded this free presentation through Junior Giants and it is open to the public to attend.

·     Jerry Blackwill will give a free history talk July 22 at Donner Memorial State Park. Doors open at 5pm and the program begins at 5:30pm. South Lake Tahoe Friends of the Library​ is hosting local author Todd Borg on Aug. 15.

Borg will read from his latest book, “Tahoe Payback,” at the 6:30pm event at the library on Rufus Allen Boulevard.

Borg will also share his writing techniques, inspirations and story lines. Book sale and signing to follow.​

A synopsis of the book: When a man tells Tahoe Detective Owen McKenna that his girlfriend disappeared, McKenna wonders if the woman got cold feet and ran away. ·      On July 21, members of the California Highway Patrol Meyers office and Alpine County Sheriff’s Office are hosting Coffee with a Cop form 9-11am at Mad Dog Cafe (formerly Woodfords Station).

·      South Tahoe Public Utility District will be working at the intersection of Tahoe Keys Boulevard and Venice Drive slip lining a sewer line. Detours will be setup between July 24-28.

·      The Douglas County Public Library celebrates the end of its Summer Reading Program with a visit from Jacques the Magician on July 31 at 6:30pm in the C.V.I.C. Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Ave. in Minden.

·      Motorists should anticipate 15- to 30-minute traffic delays on Kingsbury Grade on July 18 as NV Energy removes two large trees that are encroaching near power lines.

Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park is hosting a free Western Heritage Celebration on July 22 from 11am-5:30pm.

Carson Valley Quilt Guild will give a demonstration, there will be a Comstock Civil War re-enactment, and people will see the seven to 11 undergarments women had to wear in that era.

There will be live music,  cowboy poetry and children’s activities, along with food and drink.

·      The South Lake Tahoe City Council will have a regular meeting Aug. 15, and then have a meeting Aug. 29 dedicated to marijuana.

·      On July 18, members of the Meyers California Highway Patrol office, South Lake Tahoe Police Department and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office will host Coffee with a Cop from 9-11am at the Starbucks at the Y.

·      Whole Foods Market’s 45 stores in Northern California and Reno will donate 5 percent of its sales on July 26 to fund entrepreneurship grants for a select group of small businesses in the region. Tahoe Trail Bar is one of the organizations.

·      Cherie Kagan, one of El Dorado County court’s child custody recommending counselors (formerly known as mediators), has been honored with the court staff award by the Family Law Executive Committee of the California State Bar. 

·      Douglas County Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the Douglas County Public Library are having a mini book sale July 24 from 10am-6pm at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.

The Meyers office of the California Highway will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in the east area of El Dorado County on July 15 from 9pm-2am.

Officers will be controlling traffic, evaluating driver’s sobriety, and hand out literature warning of the dangers of drinking and driving. Driver license checks will be conducted and appropriate enforcement action will be taken.
