The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit office in Incline Village will return to its normal hours beginning Feb. 1. Normal hours are Wednesday through Friday from 8am until 4:30pm.

The North Shore office issues wilderness permits for Desolation Wilderness, as well as national recreation passes, including the Access, Senior and Annual Interagency passes. It also sells maps and offers hiking, biking, backpacking, off-highway vehicle and other recreation information for the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Lake Tahoe Historical Society will present the film “In Pursuit Of A Dream” on Feb. 7 at 6:30pm at the Lodge at Camp Richardson.

The film shows 24 students and three teachers from across the United States in a cross country wagon trek as the “emigrate” from Wyoming to Oregon one recent summer. They dressed in period 1800’s attire, carried no modern devices, trudged alongside the wagons in sunshine and rain and experienced unbelievable challenges.

The event is free.

CASAblanca at the lake is a fundraiser for CASA El Dorado County honoring South Lake Tahoe juvenile panel attorneys Julie BAchman, John CAstellanos, William Cherry, Kimberly Hunt, Lori London, Rick Meyer and Paul Palant.

Placer County Office of Elections will have a free candidate workshop Feb. 7 from 6-9pm at the Placer County Finance and Administration Building, 2956 Richardson Drive, Auburn.

Prospective candidates and their supporters are encouraged to attend. Members of the media and the public are also invited.

The workshop will explain many of the details involved in running for public office.

Guest speakers will include an experienced candidate, a campaign consultant, and a media representative.

• Kirkwood will be open 100 percent this weekend. Tahoe City Cross Country, Royal Gorge Cross Country, Tahoe Donner Cross Country, Tahoe Donner Downhill, and Donner Summit are open for the season. Snowmobiles will be running at Zephyr Cove starting Jan. 28.

• Super Bowl XLVI at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Feb. 5 will be the first time the Super Bowl has been played in Indiana. Indianapolis is the northernmost city in the United States to host the Super Bowl since Detroit hosted Super Bowl XL in 2006.

• Tahoe Pipe Club measured the clarity of Lake Tahoe on Jan. 25 and published the average clarity of the lake for the month of January as 81 feet. The results are on the website’s first page and science page.

The Lake Tahoe Federal Advisory Committee will meet Feb. 9 from 9am-noon at the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, 128 Market St., Stateline.

LTFAC will address issues related to federal activities at Lake Tahoe. Items on the agenda include reviewing and confirming the LTFAC Vision and Strategic Planning Session outcomes, and public comment.

LTFAC consists of 20 members representing an array of constituencies.
