Fireside Pizza Company in the Squaw Valley Village has partnered with Skiing and Snowboarding for Disabled and Underprivileged Children and older Kids (SkiDUCK) by providing a meal for each program member during their day of alpine adventure.

SkiDUCK is a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of disabled and underprivileged children by making available the experience of skiing and snowboarding. The program is possible due in large part to the resort’s donation of unlimited lift tickets, including more than 700 package deals combining ticket, rental equipment and lesson.

After a long day of outdoor activity this youthful bunch works up an appetite and Fireside Pizza generously feeds the group a hearty afternoon meal.

A film about Fort Ross and the Russian-American Company will show Feb. 19 at 1:15pm at Explore Tahoe near the Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe. Fort Ross is on the Sonoma coast.

A presentation outlining issues at Lake Tahoe and Lake Baikal and how the Tahoe Baikal Institute, through international exchanges, is working to preserve both watersheds will begin at 1:45pm.

In celebration of moving into its own spiritual home, Unity at the Lake is offering a “Basics of Unity” class to introduce its principles to the greater community.

The class will be taught by Stew Bittman, Unity’s co-spiritual leader. Classes are Feb. 19 from noon-1:30pm and Feb. 21 from 6-7:30pm. They will be in the Annex at Unity’s spiritual center, 1195 Rufus Allen Blvd., directly across from the Recreation Complex, in South Lake Tahoe.
