The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board was supposed to meet March 28 regarding the Regional Plan update. That meeting has been canceled because the documents are not ready to be released.

The meeting has been rescheduled for April 25-26.

When the draft documents are available they can be reviewed at the TRPA office in Stateline; and at the libraries in Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Zephyr Cove and Tahoe City. They will also be online under Regional Plan Update.

More than $2,000 plus an entire truckload of non-perishable food items were delivered to Christmas Cheer in South Lake Tahoe.

Each year, Riva Grill hosts a Business After Hours Mixer for Charity and Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce donates the proceeds to a deserving organization. This year’s beneficiary was Christmas Cheer.

The local food bank regularly feeds 2,500 people a month.

Rosemary Manning will be conducting two free classes at the Tahoe Wellness Community Center this month.

The first is called a Tap-Aware Party and the second is meditation.

A working knowledge if EFT is best for the Tap-Aware Party, but everyone is invited.  The emotional freedom technique event is March 19 from 6-7pm.

The beginning meditation class is March 26 from 6-7pm. A CD of the Dalai Lama’s healing chants will be given to everyone who makes a donation.

Tahoe Wellness Community Center is in the Bijou Center in South Lake Tahoe.

•Duane Whitelaw retired this month as chief of North Tahoe Fire Protection District. He will be honored April 20 when the Tahoe City station opens. 

• The Squaw Valley Institute is holding a premiere of a new Discovery Channel series, “Frozen Planet.” The showing will be 7-8pm., March 17 at the Resort at Squaw Creek. The event is free.

• The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors is having a public hearing on a grant the county’s Health and Human Services Agency is applying for under the Community Development Allocation for a Housing Rehabilitation and Homeownership Assistance Program. The meeting is scheduled for 9am March 27 at the Board of Supervisors meeting room, 330 Fair Lane, Placerville.

• The Area Agency on Aging is having a hearing on the 2012/2016 El Dorado County Area Plan for Senior Services. The hearing will be at 1pm, April 9 in the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center conference room, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

Zephyr Cove Elementary School fifth-grader Trent Dingman is headed to the state national Geographic Bee in Las Vegas.

The state contest is March 30.

Bees were conducted in grades 4 to 8 to decide who would go to the next level. Students with the top 100 scores were invited to the state competition.

State winners will go on to the national competition in Washington, D.C., May 22-24.

U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will continue prescribed fire operations in the Angora Fire area near Mule Deer Circle today.

Crews will be burning piles of logs left from the mechanical thinning operation last year. Operations will continue through the end of the week and through the weekend, weather and conditions permitting.

Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from this prescribed fire project area and smoke may be visible on Lake Tahoe Blvd. The Forest Service strives to minimize the impacts of smoke on local communities. Smoke-sensitive residents should consider staying indoors and keeping doors, windows and outside vents closed.

Everyone is invited to Big Night Out – Disco on April 28 at Dragonfly restaurant in Truckee from 5:30-11pm to raise money for KidZone Museum.

Start Smart is aimed at helping newly licensed and future licensed teenage drivers become aware of the responsibilities that accompany the privilege of being a licensed California driver.

The program was created in an effort to preemptively reduce the incidence of teen injuries and deaths resulting from motor vehicle collisions.

Teen drivers and their parents/guardians are invited to attend and participate in a Start Smart class March 19 from 6-8pm at South Tahoe High School library.

The Tea Party Patriots of El Dorado Hills are hosting a candidates forum March 21 at 7pm.

Those expected to attend are Superior Court judge candidates Stephen Valentine, Joseph Hoffman and Warren Stracener, and supervisor candidates John Knight (District 1 incumbent) and challenger Ron Mikulaco, and Ray Nutting (District 2 incumbent) and challenger George Turnboo.

The forum will be at the Holiday Inn Express, 4360 Town Center Blvd., El Dorado Hills.

• Even though the lease has not been signed between TJ Maxx and owners of the building at the Y in South Lake Tahoe, the clothing store’s sign is made and permits are in place for tenant improvements.

• Sierra Nevada College ski and snowboard team members will take flight against fellow SNC students in a big air contest and dual slalom exhibition on March 24 at Diamond Peak Ski Resort from noon-4:30pm.

• Local attorney and Judge Pro Tem Joseph Hoffman has announced his candidacy for El Dorado County Superior Court Judge, Office 7.

• Most of the bonds for South Lake Tahoe’s recreation measure have been converted to taxable to appease the IRS regulations so a private entity can operate the taxpayer-funded ice rink.

• South Lake Tahoe passed an ordinance making it illegal to possess spice or bath salts.
