The public on Aug. 21 will have the opportunity to meet the two finalists for the assistant county manager position in Douglas County.

The gathering will be from 5-7pm in  the ballroom in the Carson Valley Inn. The public is encouraged to come and meet the candidates during this event.

The two are Philip Ritger, Genoa town manager, and Bradley Hurley, information technology officer for the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center located at Bridgeport. Both are residents of Douglas County.

The on ramp from southbound Highway 89 to eastbound Interstate 80, as well as the off ramp from Interstate 80 to central Truckee will be closed Aug. 15 from 7am-5pm for maintenance work.

Caltrans maintenance crews will be repairing areas of the ramp’s shoulders that sustained damage during the past winter’s storms. Preventing further erosion of the ramp’s pavement and shoulders will help mitigate further damage anticipated from future winter storms.

Caltrans reminds motorists to use caution in and near work zones. Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work.

The Nevada Highway Patrol Association and MADD are partnering to end drunken and drugged driving, support victims of drunken driving, and bring an end to underage drinking.

Both organizations will tackle key issues such as reducing the number of drunken and impaired drivers on the highways and staffing NHP vacancies that currently hinder effective enforcement.

This partnership also includes working directly with legislators in Carson City to develop and support legislation addressing the safety of Nevada highways.

·       Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce’s After Five Mixer at Zephyr Cove Resort is Sept. 28 from 5-7:30pm. Cost is $10 for members, $20 for others.

·      The Nevada Department of Wildlife, city of Reno, Truckee River Foundation and One Truckee River Initiative opened two life jacket loaner stations this summer to offer life jackets to boaters, anglers and swimmers who use the Truckee River.

·      Caltrans QuickMap has added more information to assist drivers with avoiding slow traffic, road closures, highway incidents, and other travel issues. Waze app data layers can now be launched from within QuickMap.

·      South Lake Tahoe Library is putting on 3D Thursdays now through October. Do you know what a 3D printer looks like? Have you printed a 3D object? Come by the library on Rufus Allen Boulevard on Thursdays between 2-3pm to learn more about the innovative ways people use 3D printing.

·      The South Lake Tahoe iHop and Applebee’s locations are not on the list to close. The local pancake house is slated to reopen this weekend after undergoing a remodel.

·      Lakeside Inn in Stateline is hosting an NFL kickoff party outside on Sept. 9 from 5-9pm. Music will be by Drought Relief. There will be food and beverage options, corn hole, and a raffle for ski equipment.

The County Committees of Placer, Nevada and El Dorado are hosting the inaugural Tri-County State of Jefferson Town Hall on Aug. 17 at 7pm at the Auburn Garden Theater.

Admission is free and all ages are welcome to attend.

Mark Baird, a resident of Siskiyou County and State of Jefferson spokesperson, is the keynote speaker. He will be joined by other speakers who will offer information and updates about the Citizens for Fair Representation lawsuit against the state of California, as well as the process to achieve representation, plus proposed policies for the 51st state.

This is an opportunity to pick up information, ask questions, and learn more about the State of Jefferson’s game plan for equal/fair representation, reduced taxes and regulations and smaller government for all Northern California rural residents.
