A community meeting hosted by El Dorado County Supervisor Norma Santiago will take place April 4 from 6-8pm at the Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School in Meyers.

This meeting will be a first step toward implementing an update of the Meyers Community Plan. The agenda includes a presentation by Santiago in which she will review major components and past processes along with identifying current community assets.

She will then ask for community input and unveil an implementation strategy which includes funding opportunities and next steps.

The Douglas County library is having a used book sale April 14-28 in the front lobby of the Minden and Zephyr Cove libraries during regular hours.

Paperback books, audiobooks and DVDs/VHS tapes will be on sale.

The Minden library is located at 1625 Library Lane; the Zephyr Cove library is located at 233 Warrior Way.

Twenty percent of the proceeds from regular menu items at Coyote Grill will be donated to the Lake Tahoe Humane Society and S.P.C.A. to help California and Nevada animals in need.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office is having a promotional ceremony March 31 at 3pm.

Sheriff John D’Agostini has promoted Lts. Marc Adams and Randy Peshon to captain. This filled two vacant division commander positions.

Sgt. Tom Hoagland, Tim Becker, Jackie Noren, and Pete Van Arnum have been promoted to lieutenants.

Subsequently, deputies Daniel Bears, Jim Applegate, and Dan Johnson were promoted to the rank of sergeant.

The ceremony will be at the American Legion Hall, 4561 Greenstone Road, Placerville.

U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will begin prescribed fire operations in the Kings Beach area near Speckled Avenue today.

Crews anticipate burning 1 to 3 acres per day. Operations may continue through the week and possibly through the weekend, weather and conditions permitting.

Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from this prescribed fire project area. The Forest Service strives to minimize the impacts of smoke on local communities. Smoke-sensitive residents should consider staying indoors and keeping doors, windows and outside vents closed.

OPEN’s annual burger night fundraiser at Ernie’s is April 11 from 5-7 pm.

The wait staff are volunteers, so tips are appreciated. For $10 people get a burger (regular, with cheese, or veggie), fries and a soft drink.

Jonathan Finnoff, medical director of Barton Health’s Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, will give a lecture on musculoskeletal ultrasound in sports medicine April 4, 6-7pm at Lake Tahoe Community College.

Anyone who has an interest in musculoskeletal injuries (e.g., joint, tendon, ligament, bone, or muscle) is encouraged to attend. Topics include: how ultrasound works and the advantages and disadvantages of ultrasound in relation to other imaging studies such as X-ray, MRI and CT scanners. The presentation will use a “case-based” format to demonstrate the utility of ultrasound.
