After years of preparing, planning, designing and fundraising, the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, in partnership with the Truckee, will break ground on the animal shelter June 4.

If all goes as planned, the shelter is expected to open in late 2013.

HSTT has partnered with Truckee to share the cost of construction and operation of a new shelter. Approximately 1.5 acres of the town’s new corporation yard have been secured at no cost to HSTT. Bids are due by April 26 at 2pm.

The building will include an education and training center, allowing HSTT to expand its humane education, dog training and pet assisted therapy programs.

Placer County Sheriff’s Council is hosting its third annual expo and classic car show June 2.

Day with a Deputy will be at Regional Park in north Auburn, from 11am-3pm. The free event will also include a classic car show.

Throughout the day there will be demonstrations by the Sheriff Office’s Special Enforcement Team, mounted team, K-9 handlers and their dog partners, the bomb squad, the helicopter crew and more. Vendors will have booths set up on the park grounds and food will be available for purchase.

Caltrans will be working on Highway 50 in the Shingle Springs area between April 20 and May 14, which will cause traffic delays.

Crews will be building a $1.6 million wildlife under crossing between Greenstone Road and El Dorado Road.

Expect delays to range from 20 to 50 minutes.

Westbound on Highway 50 from 7pm to 9am, Friday through Sunday, April 20–30.

Eastbound on Highway 50 from 6pm to 8am, Saturday through Monday, May 5–14.

El Dorado County has funds available as low-interest rate loans for home repairs to income-qualified homeowners in the unincorporated areas of the county. Funding is provided through the State Community Development Block Grant Program and the county’s Housing Rehabilitation Revolving Loan Funds.

These Housing Rehabilitation loans must be used to correct health and safety issues and to meet code compliance standards. Program loan funds may be used to repair or replace roofs, foundations, plumbing, electrical, heating/air conditioning systems, termite damage and more. The home must be located in an unincorporated area of the county.

To qualify, the household income must fall at or below 80 percent of the area median, based on household size. Current annual maximum household income limits are: one person, $42,650; two persons, $48,750; three persons, $54,850; four persons, $60,900; five persons, $65,800; six persons, $70,650; seven persons, $75,550; eight persons, $80,400.

This program is designed to provide financing for homeowners who would not qualify for other types of financing due to limited income. Interest rates are as low as 3 percent for a 15-year loan of up to $40,000.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District will be conducting the kindergarten “round-up” for the 2012-13 school year from April 30 through May 11.

Children must be 5 on or before Nov. 1.

For transitional kindergarten, children must turn 5 after Nov. 1 and before Dec. 2.

California Law requires:

1. Child’s birth certificate;

2. Proof of immunizations, which includes the Varicella (chicken pox), hepatitis B and for most children – the last booster shot;

3.Health examination upon entry to school;
