The North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association has teamed up with state Sen. Ted Gaines, Placer County Supervisor Jennifer Montgomery and the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce to host an ADA Compliance Workshop on, April 30, 6-8pm at the Truckee Donner Public Utility District, 11570 Donner Pass Road in Truckee.

The purpose of the workshop is to educate businesses about state laws and Americans with Disabilities Act, and present guidelines to avoid lawsuits for non-compliance. This event is free and open to the public.

It will include panelists CEO and General Counsel David Peters of Lawyers Against Lawsuit Abuse and Julie Griffiths of the California Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse.

The Heavenly Ski & Snowboard Foundation’s 11th annual Grapes & Gates gourmet food and wine tasting event is May 2 from 6-9pm at Edgewood Tahoe in Stateline.

The evenings highlight will be the award presentation. The foundation will present the inaugural Bill Killebrew Award. Killebrew has been an integral part of creating opportunities for youth to enjoy and participate in snowsports.

Heavenly Freestyle Team head coach Jere Crawford, recipient of the USSA Freestyle Coach of the Year Award, will also be honored.

Tahoe Sierra Kiwanis Club presented three South Lake Tahoe residents with awards based on their efforts to enrich the community.

Wendy David received the Community Service Award for “her continued efforts of providing essentials to families in crisis through Tahoe Magic”.

The group presented a Community Service Award to David Kelly for his continued dedication as an advocate for the elderly and disabled members of the Tahoe community.

Lisa Huard was recognized for her efforts with the Drug Store Project, which provides sixth-grade students with a reality based demonstration of what can happen when getting involved in drugs and destructive decisions.

When you leave your children in the care of a babysitter, take time to cue the babysitter to your family’s escape plan. Discuss the floor plan of your house, and leave the phone number where you can be reached.

Explain the family fire safety plans to your babysitter. If the smoke detector sounds, nobody should try to find the fire, much less try to put it out.

Make it clear that your only concern is that everyone gets out of the house quickly and safely.

The North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association and Plumas Bank in partnership with the Small Business Development Center of Greater Sacramento/Sierr are offering Financial Projections class April 24 from 9am to noon at the Tahoe City Public Utility District Board Room, 221 Fairway Drive, Tahoe City.

The workshop is geared for existing and emerging business owners. Attendees will learn how to determine their start-up or expansion costs, how to build financial projects, as well as cash flow analysis strategies.

This workshop will be followed by Business Plan Components on May 8, which will discuss legal structure and operation.

Truckee Donner Public Utility District and Truckee Hometown Sears have teamed up to improve the TDPUD’s Refrigerator Recycling Program. The recycling of older, working refrigerators will save customers energy and money.

Under the program, the TDPUD will pay qualifying customers $30 for each working refrigerator and the recycling is free.

Old refrigerators can use up to $300 per year in electricity whereas new refrigerators typically use about $50 per year in electricity.

Under the new partnership with Truckee Hometown Sears, the program will be expanded to run year-round.

TDPUD electric customers may call the Truckee Hometown Sears store at (530) 550.0110 to see if they qualify for the TDPUD Refrigerator Recycling program and to schedule a pick-up. For additional information on the TDPUD’s energy and water conservation programs, call the TDPUD at (530) 582.3931.
