Local historian Dave Borges will be talking about Al Tahoe at the next Lake Tahoe Historical Society lecture.
The May 9 7pm event in the Lodge of Camp Richardson on the South Shore will focus on the history of this South Lake Tahoe neighborhood, stories of place and the people.
Borges will also talk about the walking tour of Al Tahoe.
The event is free.
The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors and the El Dorado County Office of Education are accepting applications for the 2012-13 El Dorado County Youth Commission.

The North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association and Plumas Bank in partnership with the Small Business Development Center of Greater Sacramento/Sierra are offering Business Plan Components on May 8 from 9am-noon at the Tahoe City Public Utility District Board Room, 221 Fairway Drive, Tahoe City.
The workshop is geared for existing and emerging business owners. Attendees will learn how to determine if their business plan is coming together. The event will also discuss legal structure and business operations and management.
This workshop is free of charge for North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association members, $25/person for business association members and $50/person for the general public.

South Tahoe High School teacher Wes Berkshire, a recent graduate of Sierra Nevada College, is being recognized for his master’s project “Slam: A Teaching Guide for Using Performance Poetry in High School English Classrooms”.
Berkshire will receive the award May 11 at the Incline Village campus.

The second of three sessions designed to help parents whose children are being bullied is May 7 from 5:30-8:30pm.
Techniques will be provided to empower youth with methods to deal with put downs and bullying. This series will provide usable responses and tools that empower youth to diffuse conflicts with their peers along with preventative methods for cyber bullying. Adolescent development will be covered.
People who didn’t attend the first class are welcome. The third class is June 11.

The Avoid the 6 – El Dorado County DUI Task Force will be deploying DUI saturation patrols throughout a number of cities supporting routine DUI patrols on May 5 starting at 7pm.
Additionally, CHP will be deploying saturation patrols onto freeways and in unincorporated county jurisdictions to stop, test and arrest impaired drivers who fail to use a designated driver.
Cinco de Mayo is a special opportunity to gather with friends and co-workers for chips, salsa and margaritas, celebrating California’s rich cultural diversity. It is also a night when dangerous and often deadly outcomes occur because another impaired driver hits the road drunk.
Local venues are planning special reduced rates for drinks creating the probability for even higher numbers of intoxicated drivers for a Saturday night. DUI statistics indicate the greatest number of DUI deaths and injuries occur late Saturday night and early Sunday morning which is why law enforcement will be out in force as a deterrent.
