From California to Pennsylvania, 35 Caesars Entertainment Corporation properties in more than 19 communities across the country have pledged their support for a simple concept: helping families engage with parks to create a healthy environment for themselves and their children.

This is part of the National Kids to Parks Day on May 19. This is the National Park Trust’s signature initiative – a grassroots movement that encourages children and families to get outside and explore local, state and national parks in their community

Known as HEROs in the Caesars world, the company volunteers at Harveys and Harrah’s Lake Tahoe will be taking kids to Nevada Beach State Park on May 18-19.

The Kokanee literary journal is accepting submissions of poetry and prose.

Lake Tahoe Community College students, former students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to submit up to five poems and/or 10 pages of prose (fiction or literary nonfiction/memoir) for consideration.

Include a 50-word bio written in the third person.

Submit as an attachment to Kokanee@ltcc.edu by May 31. Write “Kokanee Submission” in the subject box.

On June 8, the Truckee Elementary Parent Teacher Organization is bring “The Deckheads” to The Lodge at Tahoe Donner to raise money to benefit the students of Truckee and Glenshire elementary schools.

The Spring Fever fundraiser is from 7pm to midnight. It includes hors d’oeuvres from the chefs at The Lodge, live music under the tent from The Deckheads, raffle items, a live auction and dancing to midnight.

Tickets are available at Wild Cherries and Truckee and Glenshire elementary schools. Cost is $30 per person in advance; $35 at the door.

Need a sitter? For $20/child, drop your child at Trout Creek anytime after 6pm on the night of the event. Kids will be treated to an evening of pizza, movies, swimming, games, arts and crafts. Pickup is by 11pm.

River Ranch Restaurant will donate 30 percent of food bills to the Truckee Donner Land Trust on June 7.

Reservations (530.583.4264)must be made at least a day in advance, and be sure to tell the reservationist that you are dining for the Truckee Donner Land Trust.

The event is from 6-9pm.

The restaurant is on Highway 89 at Alpine Meadows Road.

Finally — T.J. Maxx is starting to hire for its South Lake Tahoe store.

While the opening has long been delayed because of on going negotiations between the discount retail chain and the owners of the building at the Y, that appears to be history.

The Massachusetts-based company is starting by looking for a manager and assistant manager for the store. How many people will ultimately be hired is not known because officials at the company’s headquarters could not be reached. It is still unknown when the store will open as well.

• Placer County Auditor-Controller Katherine Martinis has resigned. Assistant Auditor-Controller Andrew C. Sisk was appointed by supervisors to replace her.

• The North Lake Tahoe Business Expo is June 21, 5-7:30pm at the North Tahoe Event Center, 8318 North Tahoe Blvd. in Kings Beach.

• A neighborhood meeting for the South Y Industrial, Bonanza, Barton, Winnemucca and Airport areas is set for May 23 at 6pm at Lake Tahoe Airport. South Lake Tahoe will also hosting a meeting for the Highland Woods and Sierra Tract on May 17 at 6pm at Parks and Recreation Center.
