Caltrans is advising motorists that winter weather with the potential for snow is projected starting May 25.

Caltrans urges motorists traveling over the Interstate 80 and Highway 50 this weekend that chain controls may be in effect due to ice and snow at the summits. Motorists should plan ahead for adverse driving conditions by packing provisions, ensuring the vehicle is in good working order with proper tire tread and to carry chains.

Most traffic interfering work will be suspended for the holiday weekend. However, motorists can expect all lanes on I-80 from Highway 20 to Cisco Grove to be narrowed to 11-feet. There are no scheduled lane restrictions on Highway 50.

A company called “School District Publishing” from Riesel, Texas, has been soliciting advertising from businesses claiming they are representing Lake Tahoe Unified School District.

LTUSD officials are warning that this company does not have the authority or the permission of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District to solicit donations, or to sell or market products in the name of or on behalf of the district.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District’s elementary and middle school spring concerts are May 23.

The free musical events will be in the multipurpose room of South Tahoe Middle School.

Grades 4-6 start at 6pm, and grades 6-8 are at 7:30pm.

The El Dorado County School Boards Association and the El Dorado County Office of Education will conduct a workshop for prospective school board members on June 4 at the El Dorado County Office of Education. Registration is at 5pm, with the workshop taking place from 5:30-7pm.

The purpose of this workshop is to inform prospective school board members of the duties and responsibilities of school board members.

Local board members and superintendents from various school districts will be on a panel to discuss topics such as time commitment, the Brown Act, policy development, budget responsibilities, and the general role that school boards have in public education today.

July 7: “Muppets” movie and snacks. Create yarn creatures and Gocks.

July 14: “Hugo” movie, snacks and Cubee creations.

Soroptimist International South Lake Tahoe handed out several awards on May 23 to area students.

Honorees from South Tahoe High School include Erica Aquino, Jocelyn DeLeon, Ryan Tepper, Samuel Bray, Jason Reum, Kira Smith, Ana Tikhomirova and Tina Tu.

The three honorees from Whittell High School are Eric Ward, Sabrina Swoger and Jenner Felton.

The North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association is hosting its annual Summer Recreation lunch June 7, noon to 3pm, with registration beginning at 11:30am at West Shore Café and Inn in Homewood.

This event is geared to provide insight about summer happenings, including events, festivals and activities, to front line, front desk and concierge employees, along with business owners and managers. Attendees may give a brief presentation at the event, as well as provide 80 brochures or other pieces of collateral to be distributed during the luncheon. Drop off furniture, tires and appliances at the South Tahoe Refuse transfer station (2140 Ruth Ave.) for a discounted price of $5 per truckload for El Dorado County residents on the South Shore, and for $10 for South Shore Nevada residents.

Free secure document shredding and free e-waste disposal is also being offered.

Refrigerators are accepted at the reduced price of $15 per refrigerator.
