El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson will discuss his position on Sanctuary Jurisdiction for Cities, aka Senate Bill 54, on Sept. 11 at 6:30pm.

He will be the guest speaker at the El Dorado County Republican Central Committee meeting. It begins at 6:30pm at Park Community Church, 3901 Wild Chaparral Drive in Shingle Springs.

Pierson, who opposes SB54 presented, has presented his case before the California Assembly Judicial Committee. 

The RCC wants the Board of Supervisors to adopt a resolution declaring that El Dorado County will comply with federal immigration law.

Other issues to be discussed, include propositions 47 and 66.

·      According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, “If we took all of the snowmelt and rain that enters Lake Tahoe each year, it would take 118 years to match the amount expected to fall from Hurricane Harvey in Texas.”

·      Construction on the Highway 28 bike path near Incline Village will be suspended for the Labor Day weekend. Construction will resume Sept. 5 at 7am.

Members of South Lake Tahoe’s American Legion Post 795 and the Ladies Auxiliary are hosting a commemorative ceremony to honor the victims and first responders of Sept. 11, 2001. 

The ceremony will take place at 11am on Sept. 11 at the American Legion Hall, 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. Refreshments will be served.

This year marks the 16th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon and airline flight takeovers.

On Sept. 11, American Legion posts across the country will honor the innocent victims who lost their lives along with American military service personnel who have died in the war against terrorism.

The ceremony will also recognize local emergency service personnel.

·      Tahoe’s only Labor Day weekend fireworks show will be at Gar Woods Pier & Grill on Sept. 3 at 8:30pm.

Douglas County is hosting a citizens’ round table on Sept. 19 to discuss an overview of county projects and activities contained in the strategic plan and give citizens an opportunity to learn more about specific projects.

It will be from 5:30-7pm at the TRE Community Center in the valley. 

County staff will engage citizens in an activity to help plan for next year’s budget priorities. Results of the session will be shared with the Board of Commissioners at a November meeting. 

The Strategic Plan is a dynamic document that serves as a road map for how staff will implement the county’s vision, mission and objectives. It was approved on June 1. It is available .

The county will host another round table in the spring.

Tahoe Prosperity Center is putting on the inaugural Tahoe Economic Summit this fall, with the theme being Building Community through the Sharing Economy.

The goal is to improve Tahoe’s regional economy. The summit will provide opportunities for attendees to learn about the shared economy, and specifically how it impacts housing, entrepreneurship, workforce and jobs.

The event is Oct. 30 from 9am-4pm at the Hyatt in Incline Village.

·      Grand Funk Railroad will be at MontBleu in Stateline on Oct. 21 at 8pm. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are $45, plus taxes and fees.

·      A fictitious dilapidated hotel called El Royale at Lake Tahoe is the setting for the movie “Bad Times at the El Royale.” Reports are Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Bridges will star in it, with Drew Goddard directing. It is set in the 1960s.
