Caltrans is advising motorists to expect up to 10-minute delays on Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe between Trout Creek Bridge and Los Angeles Boulevard beginning June 4. Crews will begin grinding and paving operations as part of a stormwater and water quality improvement project.

Beginning June 4, motorists can expect eastbound lane closures from 7am-3:30pm Monday through Thursday, until 11am on Friday.

This work is part of a two-mile, $40.6 million road improvement project. This project includes new sand traps, stormwater detention vaults and filtration ponds to collect and treat runoff before it reaches Lake Tahoe. In addition, the project will help reduce vehicle emissions by adding Class II bike lanes, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalks, and pedestrian lighting. Other features include new intersection signals, landscaping and streetscaping.

State Sen. Ted Gaines, R-Roseville, is hosting a forum June 25  related to issues five years after the Angora Fire.

He plans to give an update on the Blue Ribbon Fire Commission’s recommendations, educate people about what has been done and what still needs to be done to ensure future fire safety.

America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride participants will be riding clockwise around Lake Tahoe and from Tahoe City to Truckee and back to Tahoe City, starting and finishing at the Horizon Casino Resort at Stateline on June 3.

Traffic will be delayed on northbound Highway 89 from 6:30am to 8:30am at Spring Creek Road. Southbound Highway 89 will remain open. The remaining roadways will be open and motorists are asked to share the roadway and plan a little more time to get to their destinations.

Tahoe Center for Orthopedics, Barton Health and Lake Tahoe Unified School District are offering free student sports physicals to South Tahoe and Whittell high school students and Pop Warner athletes playing fall, winter and spring sports.

Amy Berry has been hired to be CEO of the Tahoe Fund.

The mission of Tahoe Fund is to restore and enhance the natural environment of the Lake Tahoe Basin by building broad support for projects and programs that increase the enjoyment of the region for current and future generations.

The focus is on conservation, recreation and education-stewardship.

Berry joins the Tahoe Fund from ACCIONA Energy, where she was the North America director of marketing and communications and regional management team member for one of the world’s largest renewable energy companies.

Berry is a nine-year resident of the Reno area. Before joining ACCIONA in 2010, she worked for Windspire Energy and the Bauserman Group in Reno, Tahoe Quarterly magazine, and was a partner at Ogilvy & Mather.
