Kids will have a chance to show off their fishing skills at the 24th Annual Truckee Fishing Derby on July 21 from 9am to 1pm at Cold Stream Pond behind Donner Memorial State Park.

Caltrans is alerting motorists of traffic restrictions and to allow additional travel time on Highway 89 from Tahoe City to Tahoma.

Motorists can expect one-way traffic control restrictions and up to 10 minute delays from now through 10am Friday.

Southwest Gas Corporation of Carson City is scheduled to do utility work.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is asking for public input on the proposed replacement of the pier at Zephyr Cove Resort.

The proposed replacement pier would be approximately the same size as the current pier which is 358 feet long by 18 feet wide, including the existing fueling dock. The fueling dock would be re-used and would be connected to the new pier by gangways. Water, sewer, electrical, gas and fire department lines would be run through the new pier from existing connections on the shore. The abutment that anchors the pier to the shore would also be replaced.

Work could begin as early as this fall and would take several months to complete.

The South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic: A Vintage Boat Show for Charity takes place at the Tahoe Keys Marina on July 27 from noon to 5pm and on July 28 from 9am to 5pm.

In addition to over 20 different boat manufacturers, there will be several 1960s drag boats to see on land as well as in the water.  Kris Diehl and his Dixieland band are performing and there will be tastings of Korbel California Champagnes & Pacifico beer, a BBQ lunch and the Honey Bee Ice Cream truck.

A two-day pass is $15 and are available at Raley’s or Bel Air stores. Tickets will be $20 at the gate. Kids under 12 are free.

As part of a strategic planning process, the Placer County Library is implementing a system-wide community survey to obtain feedback from its users and non-users.

The survey will gather information about wants and needs of the Placer County community. Library services will then be designed around these priorities.

The survey is posted on the library website and will be available in paper form in all the libraries.
