Trails and Vistas announces The Dreaming Tree art hikes with views of the Sierra Nevada on Sept. 8 and 9 at Donner Ski Ranch, 19320 Donner Pass Road in Norden.

More than thirty artists including world musicians, dancers, storytellers and visual artists will present the signature two-mile art hikes. In addition to local creative talent, artists come from the San Francisco Bay Area, Santa Cruz, Chico, Davis and Utah.

South Lake Tahoe and Lake Tahoe Community College Connect Community Education are sponsoring the Renovator, Repair, Painter Training for local contractors.

The Lead Safe Worker eight-hour training for Renovators, Repair and Painters is being offered at LTCC in Spanish on July 28. The cost to attend the training is $50 and up to two workers from each company are welcome to participate.

The reduced cost of the workshop fees are being paid for by the South Lake Tahoe grant funding. The Lead Safe Tahoe program has been able to control potential lead-based paint hazards and renovate nearly 60 homes so far through this federally funded grant program.

Common renovation activities like sanding, cutting, and demolition can create hazardous lead dust and chips by disturbing lead-based paint, which can be harmful to adults and children. To protect against this risk, on April 22, 2008, EPA issued the Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule. It requires that firms performing renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in pre-1978 homes, child care facilities and schools be certified by EPA and that they use certified renovators who are trained by EPA-approved training providers to follow lead-safe work practices.

South Lake Tahoe Recreation Facilities Joint Powers Authority at its July 27 9am meeting at Lake Tahoe Airport will be presented with ideas about how to spend money to improve bike trails and fields within its jurisdiction.

The three-member board could take action that morning or defer a decision.

It is being recommended that new planks for the two bike bridges in South Lake Tahoe be replaced and that the softball field at South Tahoe High School be completed.

The Lake Tahoe Bike Coalition along with the Boys & Girls Club will be producing a Bike Rodeo on Aug. 17 starting at 2pm at the Boys & Girls Club in South Lake Tahoe.

The rodeo will include a bike safety check, proper fitting of helmets, and instruction on safe bicycle handling skills.

South Shore Bikes will be on hand to perform bike safety check and the California Highway Patrol, with the help of the Bike Coalition, will administer the bike safety education.

Fourteen athletes vied for the title of Korbel Hole-in-One Champion on July 20 at the American Century Championship at in Lake Tahoe.

Wind was not on their side in this inaugural contest. John Elway unleashed a drive landing him 6 feet, 7.5 inches away from the pin.

If someone had gotten a hole in one. they would have received cash from Korbel as would have the Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation. But because no one hit the hole in one the Champagne company gave the full $5,000 to the foundation.

The Lego Group is coming to Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe to take residents and visitors on a Brickation from July 25-Sept. 4.

This pop-up Lego experience will include activities, hands-on experience, and summer themed life-size Lego models.
