The Nevada Department of Transportation says scam artists are attempting to purchase computer equipment under NDOT’s name.

Using a fake @nevadaddot.com email address, scammers have attempted to purchase computer equipment without an official state purchase request or vendor solicitation. The scammers then attempt to get the equipment delivered to an out-of-state location.

Multiple companies have contacted NDOT directly to verify what turned out to be illegitimate purchase requests. One vendor shipped computer equipment without verification.

Official NDOT email addresses end with @dot.nv.gov.

Live Violence Free is hosting two workshops Sept. 21 about social issues.

Addison Rose Vincent will talk about how to create safe and affirming spaces for LGBTQIA+ clients in nonprofit or other service organizations including schools, libraries, medical facilities, and more. This will be from 10am-noon.

FBI Special Agent Brad Bilderback takes over from 1-3pm to educate people about uncovering the dangers of social media use, and teach attendees how to keep themselves and youth safe from these harms.

·      Tahoe Donner ski resort has renovated the base lodge sundeck, enhanced tree skiing off Eagle Ridge chair, and has installed more snowmaking.

·      Author Gini Cunningham will explore the connection between music and memory, and revitalizing individuals with a dementia through the simple experience of listening to music. The free talk will be Nov. 13 from 1-3pm at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel in South Lake Tahoe.

Thanks to the San Francisco-based nonprofit Mission Asset Fund, scholarships are available to cover the costs for California community college students who need to renew their Deferred Action for Childhood Arrives (DACA) status before the Oct. 5 deadline.

MAF, which has a long history of supporting Dreamers, has dedicated scholarship funds specifically to help California community college students, along with CSU and UC students, pay for the $495 DACA renewal fee.

The El Dorado County Senior Nutrition Program is looking for dedicated, caring volunteers for the home delivered meal program.  

Volunteers generally works one day each week on an assigned route, delivering meals between 10:30am-noon.

Volunteers who cannot provide a weekly commitment may serve as back-up drivers.

The meetings will be at the Minden branch on the third Wednesday of each month at 3pm starting Sept. 20. There will be free pizza and soda.
