Small businesses interested in marketing their business are invited to attend a small business seminar on Sept. 29, 8-9:30am at the North Tahoe PUD office in Tahoe Vista.

The seminar is free for members of the North Tahoe Business Association, Tahoe City Downtown Association, and North Lake Tahoe Resort Association and $20 for non-members.

The seminar will be lead by Melissa Forziat, a small business strategic marketing coach and event manager. She will cover:building referrals, customer retention and recognition, online marketing, in-person networking.

The annual Mutt Strut will begin at Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe at noon on Oct. 1 and will end at Tahoe Beach Retreat.

There will be music and games, plus a raffle, and a big lake to play in.

A big change this year is there are no fees. Tahoe Animal Coalition decided to turn the event into a big community dog walk, minus the poker run.

But that doesn’t mean the nonprofit isn’t accepting donations.

ACT is now running the only spay-neuter program in the South Tahoe area, and that requires money to keep it going. A raffle will help raise money for the group.

Expect lane closures on Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe on Friday for paving and striping work.

Weather prevented the work on Wednesday and again Thursday, so Highway 50 will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Dunlap Drive to Winnemucca Avenue on Sept. 21 from about 11am-5pm. Work normally ceases at 11am on Fridays.

The work again will be dependent on weather and temperature conditions.

·      Cram-A-Cruiser event, which benefits B&B 4 Kids, will be Sept. 30 from 10am-3pm at Grocery Outlet in South Lake Tahoe.  

·      The Sept. 29 unveiling of Champions Plaza in South Lake Tahoe has been canceled because the statue is not ready. It’s anticipated the unveiling will be later this year.

The Nevada Department of Transportation is developing the One Nevada Transportation Plan that will guide transportation investments in the state for the next 20 years. The plan aims to prioritize investments and needs across the state to maximize benefits to the public.

NDOT wants to hear from the Lake Tahoe residents about their transportation priorities.

NDOT and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency staff are having a public workshop on Sept. 21 from 5-7pm at the TRPA offices on Market Street in Stateline.

The California Highway Patrol office in Meyers is offering to check car seats for free.
