The Tahoe City Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for the annual Breakfast with Santa and Craft Bazaar. The event is going into its fourth year at Rideout Community Center.

The department is calling for local artists and craftsmen to show off their creativity and display their work. The cost is $50 per booth with the proceeds going directly to the Recreation Departments’ after school program.

The event is Dec. 1 from 8:30am-12:30pm.

It is free to attend.

There will be an exhibit of paintings by Peter Darvas and public reception on Oct. 13 from 1-9pm at the Ski Run Marina Art Gallery in South Lake Tahoe.

Darvas lost his studio and home on Pioneer Trail on Sept. 18 when a fire destroyed the structure.

National Family Partnership is having a national contest for its 27th annual Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23-31. Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country.

Families can get involved by entering a contest to promote awareness in their neighborhoods and win a drug prevention grant for their schools.

Families can enter Red Ribbon Week’s contest to win a $1,000 grant for their school and a new iPad for their home. To participate in the contest families and students must decorate the front of their homes with this year’s message: The Best Me Is Drug Free.

Take a photo with your family and the Red Ribbon Week decoration, then upload it by Nov. 2.

Ask family and friends to vote for your entry online from Nov. 2-16. Ten people from regions across the U.S. will win. Winners will be announced in December.

Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce and the Sierra Human Resources Association are offering the Tricks for Trainers: How To Give It So They Get It workshop on Oct. 10 from 8:30am-12:30pm at the chamber offices located at 169 Highway 50, Stateline.

Attendees will learn how to design and deliver high impact training sessions in a low-pressure and encouraging environment. They will integrate the four styles of learning and take way accelerated learning techniques that are easy to incorporate, which will improve the structure of their next workshops.

The speaker is Laura Moriarty, founder of Tahoe Training Partners, nationally known corporate trainer and frequent presenter of SHRA workshops.
