• Chase International has appointed Jacqueline Daniels regional sales manager of its West Shore offices. Daniels, who has been working as a broker associate in the Tahoe City office, will now oversee brokerage operations in the Truckee, Squaw Valley and Tahoe City offices.

Chevy’s in South Lake Tahoe is helping raise money for CASA El Dorado on Oct. 30 from 5-8pm.

A $10 donation to CASA includes access to the Chevy’s Taco Bar.

U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will continue prescribed fire operations in the Timberland area of the West Shore on Oct. 29.

Crews anticipate burning three acres over the next several days, conditions permitting.

Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from this prescribed fire project area. The Forest Service strives to minimize the impacts of smoke on local communities. Smoke-sensitive residents should consider staying indoors and keeping doors, windows and outside vents closed.

There will be a meeting Oct. 30 at 6pm about the Coldstream Specific Plan in Truckee.

The meeting will be at the council chambers, 10283 Truckee Airport Road, Truckee.

The purpose is to discuss the plan and environmental impact report, which have been scaled down from the original plan.

A portion of Fair Lane Road in Placerville will be temporarily closed for construction.

From Nov. 7-Dec. 21 the El Dorado County Government Center can be accessed via Forni Road or Ray Lawyer Drive. Access to businesses along Fair Lane will remain open via Placerville Drive.

Remember the “50 South Shore gas stations”?

The intersection of Highway 50 and Lodi Avenue had three of them.

The Union 76 station was replaced by today’s parking for Magic Carpet mini-golf, and the Standard station was replaced by an office building.

A third station still operates.

The League to Save Lake Tahoe is teaming up with local progressive rockers Groovebox to stage a Halloween Party all about keeping it blue.

Prizes will be awarded for best overall costume and most creative blue costume.

Other attractions include raffles and a special Halloween photo booth.

A portion of proceeds will help support the League to Save Lake Tahoe.

Show starts at 8pm Oct. 31, $10 cover, must be at least 18 to attend.

The event is at the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe.

• South Lake Tahoe Mayor Claire Fortier will give a State of the City address Nov. 20 at 9am at Lake Tahoe Airport.

• The American Legion Auxiliary Community Christmas Party is Dec. 1 from 1:30-3pm at the American Legion Post No. 795 on Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe. Santa will be there for gifts for children up to age 10. It is free and open to the public.

• The River Ranch, located at the entrance to Alpine Meadows, celebrates its 40th anniversary under current ownership on Nov. 1 from 5:30-8:30pm. The lodge and restaurant have been in existence for 100 years.

• The 24th annual Chocolate, Wine & Roses Festival will take place Nov. 3 from 7-10pm at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe in Incline Village. Tickets are $85/person.

• Charles Barkley, whose antics and poor performance at the annual celebrity golf tournament in Lake Take are legendary, is making money off his lousy golf game.
