There is a meeting Nov. 7 to discuss the Meyers Community Plan update.

The 5:30-8:30pm meeting is at Lake Valley Fire District, 2211 Keetak St., in the modular at the rear of the property.

The work group sessions and times are:

5:30-7pm: Recreation (including Tahoe Paradise Improvement District- Lake Barron) and conservation

7-8:30pm: Land use and transportation.

Valhalla’s annual Holiday Faire is Nov. 16-18.

There will be 24 local vendors featuring handcrafted items, along with musical presentations from local children’s choirs, Santa’s Village, and concessions serving hot food and beverages.

The hours are Nov. 16 from 5:30-8:30pm, Nov. 17 from 10am-5pm and Nov. 18 from 10am-4pm.

Valhalla is off Highway 89 on the South Shore in between Camp Richardson and Fallen Leaf Lake.

Friends of the Veterans Monument will sponsor the annual El Dorado County Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 11 at the El Dorado County Veterans Monument, 360 Fair Lane, Placerville.

The ceremony commences precisely at 11am with the call to order and present colors. The singing of our national anthem follows, during which the distant rumbling of vintage radial engines will be heard as a flight of WWII-era war birds approaches the monument. They soar over the monument in a fly-by salute to those who have served the cause of freedom.

As part of a special tribute on Veterans Day, two engraved granite benches will be dedicated and placed in the EDC Veterans Monument Plaza:

Zawadisha’s 2nd annual Holiday Bazaar is Dec. 1 from 10am-3pm.

Featuring local artisans and unique finds, the bazaar gives people an opportunity to shop locally and support community this holiday season.

Artists include ReviveTahoe, SquirrelsNest, and Sierra Clay Art. Zawadisha will be representing with handmade African jewelry, baskets, bags, and fabric.

The free event on Nov. 13 is put on the Lake Tahoe Historical Society.

It starts at 7pm at the Camp Richardson Lodge on Highway 89 on the South Shore.

U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will conduct prescribed fire operations in the Spring Creek area near the south end of Lake Tahoe starting Nov. 1.

Crews anticipate burning 3 acres per day through the end of the week, conditions permitting.

Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from this prescribed fire project area. The Forest Service strives to minimize the impacts of smoke on local communities. Smoke-sensitive residents should consider staying indoors and keeping doors, windows and outside vents closed.

Sugar Pine Foundation staff and friends who have traveled to places around the globe including Antarctica, Central Asia, Mongolia and California’s Lost Coast will share photos, films and stories as part of fund-raising event.

Lake Tahoe Pizza Co. will donate 30 percent of the night’s profits to Sugar Pine Foundation.

The Douglas County 911 Emergency Services Department has completed 40 hours of enhanced specialized training and is now better prepared to take 911 calls regarding missing and/or sexually exploited children.

Douglas County 911 Emergency Services has recently become a NCMEC 911 Call Center Partner – the first agency in Nevada to do so.

Every year 800,000 children go missing in the United States. That’s more than 2,000 children per day. Calls about missing and sexually exploited children can become high profile events that have a devastating impact on the victim’s family, your community, and your call center.

Every 911 call center must have in place policies and training to help ensure every missing and sexually exploited child is given the best chance to be found alive and unharmed.
