In keeping with the Thanksgiving season, there will be having a gratitude meditation this month at the Tahoe Community Wellness Center.
It will be Nov. 26 from 6-7pm
No charge, but donations are accepted.
The center is in the Bijou Center in South Lake Tahoe.

The fifth-grade two-way immersion class at Bijou Community School has entered a contest to win Spanish books and materials. The class made a video entirely on its without any adult help.
The school with the most votes wins.

The American Legion Auxiliary will host its annual children’s Christmas party on Dec. 1 from 1:30-3pm at the American Legion Hall, 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.
Santa will be in attendance and gifts will be provided for children ages 2 to 10. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served.
The party is free and open to the public.

Tahoe’s first pedal-powered tree lighting event is Dec. 9 in Meyers.
Santa will again arrive by air — just not with the usual reindeer.
Hot chocolate, popcorn, Christmas carols and other fun are planned from 6-8 that night.
Lake Valley and Tahoe Douglas firefighters have strung the lights in front of the Divided Sky.
Even though several residents of Fallen Leaf Lake don’t believe the issue of who can vote has been resolved, there will be a board election next year.
Candidates for the two seats have until Dec. 7 to file with the El Dorado County Registrar of Voters Office.
The election will be March 5.
Candy Cane Lane, a custom outdoor drive-through holiday display at the Carson Valley Inn, will be up for nightly viewing starting Thanksgiving weekend.
In its third year, Candy Cane Lane features thousands of seasonal lights and a variety of scenes depicting traditional characters and images getting ready for Christmas. Accompanying music can be heard by tuning an FM radio to the frequency posted at the entrance.
To experience this visual and musical salute to the festive holiday season, pull into the Carson Valley Inn parking lot at the RV Resort Entrance – between the Carson Valley Market and the Inn’s electronic sign. The lighted arches mark the way.
The Carson Valley Inn is located on Highway 395 in Minden.
The free light display will be up through December.

• Resort at Squaw Creek’s Magical Memories Gingerbread Village Unveiling and Grand Tree Lighting Ceremony is Nov. 23 from 5-8pm. Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with Olympian Jonny Moseley will be there.
• National Geographic is airing a 10-part documentary that captures the trials and triumphs of keeping Interstate 80 open through the winter of 2010-11. “Hell on the Highway” airs Wednesdays at 10pm.
The El Dorado County Library, Live Violence Free and CASA El Dorado have partnered to offer the eighth annual Giving Tree.
The tree is up in the South Lake Tahoe branch library decorated with the holiday wish list ornaments of children who are part of the court system, perhaps in foster care, or living in a shelter as a result of domestic violence in their family.
Here is how to help with the Giving Tree:
• Pick an ornament from the tree.
• Take the ornament(s) and buy what you would like from the list.
• Return the unwrapped gifts to the library no later than 1pm on Dec. 12 so Santa has time for wrapping and delivering to kids.
• To return, put gifts in a bag and secure the ornament tag on the outside of the bag.

Placer County is having a meeting about the Tahoe Basin Community Plan on Nov. 28 at Granlibakken in Tahoe City from 4-8pm.
Placer County has consolidated its nine plans into a single policy document with four planning areas. A team composed of community members is working on issues germane to each area. Each planning area will have its own distinct zoning ordinance and community-specific design guidelines.
The four planning areas are:
North Tahoe East, which covers Kings Beach and the Stateline community;
Greater Tahoe City, which includes Tahoe City, Tahoe City Gateway, Lake Forest, and Dollar Hill;
North Tahoe West, which includes Carnelian Bay and Tahoe Vista; and
The West Shore, which includes Sunnyside, Homewood and Tahoma.
Attending the November meeting will be the community design consultants Dyett & Bahtia who will work with each team. The consultant has put together draft zoning district standards for each team. These standards are reflective of the work that the teams have done to date.
