• Whittell High School’s Winter Formal, which is for all grades, is Feb. 8 at the Presbyterian Conference Center at Zephyr Cove. Tickets are $30 per couple for students in grades 9-12, and $10 per person for students in grades 7-8.  The high school dance is from 8-11pm, and middle from 5:30-7:30pm.

Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School is taking names for the Fall 2013 “line-up” of kindergartners.

Children who will be turning 5 on or before Dec. 2 qualify. Parents much fill out a form at the school office to be part of the lottery.

The deadline to apply is March 27. Names will be pulled April 1.

The school is located at 1095 East San Bernardino Ave., at the end of Apache in Meyers.

Barton Health’s Wellness Lecture Series, now in its third year, resumes Feb. 6.

There will be 20 lectures in 2013 addressing a variety of topics.

The first lecture of 2013 will be given by cardiologist David Young from Barton Cardiology on Feb. 6 from 6 to 7pm at Lake Tahoe Community College in the Aspen Room.

Young will discuss cardiovascular adaptations of high altitude living.

The lectures are free.

The North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association is accepting applications for the 2012-13 Special Events Grant Program until Feb. 22 at 5pm.

There is $14,000 available to award recipients to be used this fiscal year that ends June 2013, or next fiscal year. The available funds are open to those with events planned for the Placer County/North Lake Tahoe region. The majority of grants awarded will be between $500 and $2,500.

Hacienda Del Lago will host the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association Business Mixer and the annual SnowFest fundraiser — Party Like It’s Snowfest — on Jan. 17 from 5-8pm.

Hacienda Del Lago is located at 760 North Lake Blvd., Boatworks Mall, in Tahoe City.

The cost is $20.

SnowFest is scheduled for March 1-10 and will take place at a variety of venues throughout the North Lake Tahoe region.

• Barton Health will move part of the South Lake Tahoe Community Clinic Jan. 16-20. This is the completion of the first phase of the clinic’s expansion and renovation. The clinic will remain open for emergent patients during the move. The project will be finished this summer.

A full moon yurt dinner on Jan. 25 and Jan. 26 is a fundraiser for the Winter Discovery Center at Tahoe Cross Country.

Douglas Dale of Wolfdale’s will be the chef both nights.

The evening adventure starts with a moonlit ski or snowshoe from the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area to the trailside warming hut on Yellow trail where skiers will enjoy fireside hot mulled wine and hot chocolate. Dinner will be in the yurt. When the meal is complete you are within walking distance from your car.

Limited tickets are available at $65 per person. This includes the three-course meal, tax, a beverage, ski or snowshoe equipment and trail pass. This is an evening out for adults only.

Tahoe Derby Dames are recruiting new skaters.

The South Lake Tahoe roller derby team is having a recruitment meeting Jan. 21 at 7pm upstairs at Steamers Bar and Grill, 2236 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

Practices are open for all to check out and/or participate this month on Sunday and Tuesdays at 8pm at Kahle Community Center in Stateline.
