The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is putting on two workshop about the updated Code of Ordinances.

The first Feb. 11 from 6-8pm, at the the TRPA office, 128 Market St. The Feb. 12 6-8pm meeting is at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center, 948 Incline Way, Incline Village.

The updated TRPA Code is scheduled to go into effect Feb. 11.

• Bears have been seen out and about in the basin. They don’t sleep through the winter because they go through a state of torpor instead of true hibernation. When winter weather comes back they will likely go back to their den.

• Tahoe Mountain Milers running club raised $2,300 during the 2012 Kokanee Salmon Run to be used for projects at Taylor Creek Visitor Center and educational materials for this year’s Kokanee Salmon Festival.

• MontBleu’s Ciera Steak + Chop House in Stateline is the lone Northern Nevada restaurant to earn the Four Diamond designation from AAA.

• South Lake Tahoe Rotary’s 2nd annual Off the Wall fine art auction is Feb. 9 at 6:30pm. The event is at Inn by the Lake. The $15 fee includes hors d’oeuvres and Champagne.

• Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe is on U.S. News & World Report’s gold list of Best Hotels.

The Lake Tahoe branch of the Douglas County Public Library is presenting Saturday Stories and Crafts on Feb. 9 at 3pm.

Children ages 3 and up are invited to celebrate Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year at the library.

There will be stories, treats, and a craft. All supplies will be provided.

Ben’s Fine Wines & Spirits in Reno is hosting a fundraiser for the Sugar Pine Foundation.

The March 8 event will start at 5pm and will feature a wine tasting from El Dorado County vineyards, hors d’oevres, a photography expose and commentary about the Sugar Pine Foundation. The live auction and raffle will close at 8:30pm, though the event continues until 10pm.

A suggested donation of $20 will support the Sugar Pine Foundation.

• Sierra Resort will recognize guests dressed in 49er jerseys, jackets, and hoodies on Super Bowl Sunday by offering them a full-day lift ticket for $49.

• Among the 20 honorees to receive an Engineering Excellence Honor Award from the California Chapter American Council of Engineering Companies, Auerbach Engineering Corporation won for the Tahoe City Lakeside Trail.

Colton McHugh’s, a junior at South Tahoe High School, had his photograph selected as one of the 100 best in the 33rd annual College & High School Photography Contest sponsored by NIKON.

Sandy Robles, who graduated in 2012, is also a finalist, as is student Julia Schmidseder.

The top 12 will be selected from this group to receive a $2,000 scholarship.

Winning photos will be published in the May issue of Photographer’s Forum magazine, entered into Nikon’s Emerging Photographers Hall of Fame and exhibited at Brooks Institute Gallery 27.

Truckee River Winery is having an ice carving contest March 6 from noon-7pm.

This is a fund-raising event with High Fives Foundation. Ice carvers will be given four hours to sculpt their blocks of ice. All carvers will be judged on artistry, creativity, level of difficulty and relevance. Carvers are encouraged to choose a design that emulates all three of these skills. Only two people per team are allowed.

The cost is $100 for the ice block. The winner of the competition will have his or her fee waived.
