Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce’s monthly Tech Tuesday covers the hottest trends in technology. The series takes place the first Tuesday of the month, from 8-9:30am in the chamber conference room in Stateline.

Lake Tahoe Community College’s Library is hosting a free drop-in career clinic with consultant Michael Donahoe. The clinic is open to everyone.

The clinics will be from 1-3pm every Wednesday starting April 10 and lasting through June 26.

The Commission on Aging is looking for additional members.

The commission acts in an advisory capacity to the Area Agency on Aging and the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors on matters concerning senior residents.

The commission focuses its efforts on such issues as the following:

• Development of community centers in strategic areas of the County to ensure provision of accessible services to all senior residents.
• Promotion of services that enable seniors to remain in their homes for as long as possible.
• Identification and prevention of elder abuse.

Applicants are being sought from all areas of the county. Preference will be given to those applicants who are 60 years and older.

The deadline for submitting an application is May 10.

• South Lake Tahoe police Officer Johnny Poland’s next federal court hearing has been pushed back to May 1.

• Travel & Leisure has released its list of America’s Coolest River Walks and Reno comes up No. 9.

• Andrew Sanford, who is accused of killing South Lake Tahoe teenager Richard Swanson in 1980, will be tried in El Dorado County Superior Court in Placerville starting Oct. 1.

• The Bicycle Advisory Committee of the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Facilities Joint Powers Authority will meet April 1 from 9-11am at McDonalds Y parking lot, then Motel 6 parking lot, and then the parking lot adjacent to the Presbyterian Church. This is to look at the various bike trails.

• Animal Planet sent a film crew from “Finding Bigfoot” to the Lake Tahoe Basin. Watch for the segment to air in the summer.

• Tahoe Blue Vodka received the Chairman’s Trophy for unflavored vodka at the fourth annual Ultimate Spirits Challenge in New York City this month.

• The Tahoe Transportation District board is expected to vote April 12 on which loop road routes will be studied in the environmental documents. A report from the business review committee will be given. The meeting is at the TRPA office in Stateline starting at 9:30am.

• Authors Suzanne Roberts and Tim Hauserman will talk about the John Muir Trail and the Tahoe Rim Trail, respectively, during the March 26 Sierra Club meeting. The free talk starts at 6pm at Emerald Bay Physical Therapy, 812 Emerald Bay Road, South Lake Tahoe.

Truckee in cooperation with the Placer County Stormwater Division will be hosting a stormwater workshop April 17.

The focus will be on providing business owners, contractors, engineers, and local agency staffs information on the new municipal permit requirements. The new permit starts July 1.

The free workshop is from 9-11am at 10183 Truckee Airport Road, Truckee.

In addition, there will be a refresher segment on temporary and permanent erosion control best management practices, sediment control BMPs, good housekeeping BMPs, and their proper installation and maintenance.

Starting in the 1920s as Connolley’s Bijou at the South Shore, it evolved from tent cabins and beach to include this large white frame building between Highway 50 and the shoreline for lodging, dining, and recreation.

Before being razed in 1973, the building had a varied history, including Connolly’s Pancake House (note changed spelling) and lastly, Nel’s Tahoe Supply.

The demolition sign in this photo announces: “Timbercove Lodge, opening October 1st, 1973, on the Beach.”

This 2013 photo at the same location indicates the recent rebranding as Beach Retreat & Lodge at Tahoe. I want to think those are the same two historic trees (behind) in both photos.

Connolly Beach still exists and is publicly operated by the city of South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Department.

The Tahoe Maritime Museum is offering a wooden paddleboard building course starting in June.

The course will use Chesapeake Light Craft Paddle Board Kits to construct either 12-foor-6-inch or 14-foot paddleboards. The boards are built from marine plywood using a stitch and glue method.
