·      Placer County Board of Supervisors approved $400,000 in park dedication fees and $100,000 for improvements to Speedboat Beach, located at the base of Harbor Avenue and Lake Street in Kings Beach. The funding will cover completion of planned restroom, signage, stairway and access improvements.

·       New Mastersounds with Kung Fu, the four-piece jazz fusion funk band from Leeds, England, will be at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe’s Vinyl Showroom on Nov. 5 at 9pm. Tickets are $18 presale or $25 at the door. Must be 21 or older.

·      Eldorado National Forest will burn 169 acres approximately four miles northwest of Kirkwood next week if weather conditions allow.

·      Community Soup Night is Nov. 9 from 5:30-7:30pm at Alibi Ale Works in Truckee. BYO bowl and spoon. Proceeds go to Tahoe Food Hub and Slow Food Lake Tahoe. Soup and bread are $5, salad is $2.

·      On Oct. 31 from 11am-11pm there will be a fundraiser at TahoeAleWorX for the Junior Pee Wee Viking football team that is going to the Best of the West Championship on Nov. 11 in Santa Clara. They are trying to defend their title.

“How Did We Get Here?” is the topic of Dave Borges history talk on Nov. 14.

He will talk about Highway 50 road improvements from Tahoe to Placerville and what is still visible on the road. This program will cover everything from Native American trade routes over the Sierra to the 1859 Bonanza Road, tolls, railways and more. 

The talk begins at 7pm at the Camp Richardson Historic Hotel. Cost is $3, free for Lake Tahoe Historical Society members.

Placer County and the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association are having three meetings in November to gather input on where hotel tax revenues should be spent.

More than $18 million in transient occupancy taxes was collected in the last year on the North Shore. Now the county needs to decide how to spend it. The money will be reinvested in the North Lake Tahoe area.

The meetings will be Nov. 1 from 6-8pm at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach, Nov. 7 from 6-8pm at the Donner Summit Auburn Ski Club Training Center in Soda Springs, and on Nov. 8 from 6-8pm at the Tahoe City firehouse.

·       On Nov. 3, Black Dahlia Murder, the American death metal band, comes to Hard Rock Lake Tahoe’s Vinyl Showroom. Doors open at 4pm, show starts at 5pm. Pre-sale tickets are $25 or $30 at the door. Must be 21 to attend.

·      Washoe County Sheriff’s Office will offer free Halloween candy X-ray screening at the Washoe County District Courthouse and the Mills Lane Justice Center on the day after Halloween.

·      Placer County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 24 adopted a resolution formalizing that 100 percent of lodging taxes generated in North Lake Tahoe will support tourism and go toward implementing the county’s 2015 Tourism Master Plan for the region.

Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District has partnered with Kingsbury Hardware to provide ash cans to the homeowners of the district for the safe disposal of hot ashes.

Cans are free for residents who are part of the district who use a wood burning appliance to heat their homes.

To obtain a free ash can, go online  then go to Prevention/Burning Regulations and print out an an ash can voucher. Vouchers are also available at the Round Hill fire station.

·       Veterans Healing Camp is having a special flag raising ceremony with bagpipe music and free concert on Nov. 18 from noon-3pm at the Veterans Healing Camp property located at 1775 Highway 50 in Silver Springs.

Halloween is coming early to Ski Run Marina.

The businesses in this South Lake Tahoe complex are celebrating the holiday on Oct. 28 from 5:30-8pm. Trick or treating will be available at 13 businesses.

It’s not just about collecting candy. The center is also using this time to raise money and gather food for Bread & Broth for Kids. This nonprofit provides food to local youngsters on the weekend who might otherwise go without. People are asked to donate loose change or whatever cash they want to the cause, as well as bring non-perishable single serving food items youths might like.

·      Bread & Broth, an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to ease hunger in the Lake Tahoe South Shore community, needs volunteers to help with communications, fundraising, volunteer coordination and Monday meal volunteer coordination. ·       There will be a free public workshop conducted by HICAP on Oct. 31 at 1pm at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center to help Medicare enrollees understand coverage options for 2018.

All trick-or-treaters are invited to the Tahoe Beach Retreat and Lodge for Trick & Retreat on Oct. 31 from 6-8pm.

The South Lake Tahoe hotel is providing a safe environment for youngsters.

Businesses are decorating rooms for kids to visit and get their treats. There will also be a bounce house, music, s’more making and more.

This event is free to the public and not only are little goblins but so are furry ones.

Food and drinks will also be available for purchase during the event.
