Clean Tahoe’s annual dump day is June 1 for El Dorado County residents who live in Lake Tahoe to dispose of electronics, furniture, mattresses, appliances, tires and other large trash items.

Drop off furniture, tires and appliances to the South Tahoe Refuse Transfer Station (2140 Ruth Ave.) for a discounted price of $5 per truckload.

Refrigerators are accepted at the reduced price of $15 per refrigerator.

The event is also open to Nevada residents, who can dump their junk for $10 a truckload.

Free secure document shredding and e-waste disposal is also being offered.

The event is from 8am-4pm.

Vikingsholm is accessible for people who need a ride to the Lake Tahoe shoreline castle.

Reservations to access Vikingsholm by vehicle must be booked at least 24 hours in advance by calling (530) 525.9529. Access is available when volunteers are able to provide the service.

One person in each group must have an ADA placard with them and give the placard number when making the reservation. Only one vehicle allowed per ADA placard.

Meet at D.L. Bliss visitors’ center between 12:30-12:45pm, purchase a $10 parking permit, then a docent will lead in their vehicle, and guests will follow. Return up the hill at 3pm.

The workshops are presented in English and Spanish.

Next group sessions are June 5 and June 19 and will continue the first and third Wednesdays each month from 6-7:30pm. Workshops are in the “Living Room” downstairs at Church of the Mountains, 10079 Church St., across from the old rec center in downtown Truckee.

Nevada Division of State Lands will take sealed bids for one Washoe County residential building allocation until May 29 at 3pm.

The minimum bid is $15,000 and the successful bidder will be responsible for costs associated with the transfer of the allocation from the Division of State Lands. These costs may include application fees, preliminary title reports and escrow costs.

A deposit equaling 10 percent of the bid must be submitted with the bid in the form of a money order or cashier’s check made out to First American Title Company in an envelope marked “Sealed Bid-Residential Allocation.” The successful bidder must also submit an application to purchase the allocation by June 14.

The 2013 Eldorado County Fair has a slew of activities planned for the June 13-16 event in Placerville.

If you’re not in a band, but still want to showcase your vocal talent, enter the El Dorado County Fair Idol. All contestants perform at the preliminary competition June 15 at 2pm. For the ultimate competitor, Kiwanis of Placerville presents the 69th annual John M. Studebaker Wheelbarrow Races to challenge endurance, athleticism and strength. Pre-register before 4pm on June 16. Entry fees and prizes vary by age group. The event begins at 5pm.

For the ultimate competitor between the ages of 4 and 7 there is Mutton Bustin’ on June 14 at 6:30pm.

The Moose Lodge of South Lake Tahoe South Lake Tahoe is raising much-needed funds for the South Tahoe Cancer League via the 8th annual Longest Day of Golf.

Golfers will start at sun-up and play as many holes as they can before sundown at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course. The golfers usually play approximately 120 holes and, over the past seven years, have raised more than $50,000 for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League.

The event is June 12.

Desolation Wilderness will be the focus of a talk by Bill Finch.

Finch is a volunteer backcountry wilderness ranger for the U.S. Forest Service.

He will show slides which he believes best exemplify the natural beauty found near South Lake Tahoe as a way to prepare for the summer hiking season.

The free talk is June 15 at 1:30pm at the South Lake Tahoe Library, 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.

The wagon train will make its annual trek along Highway 50 in June.

The Highway 50 Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to horse and wagon enthusiasts, and the historical re-enactment of the Great Western Migration captures the spirit of the old West.

Rendezvous at Zephyr Cove for an evening of cowboy poetry, Western music and New York steak barbecue, hosted by Wagon Train for $25 on June 1.

The wagons depart on June 2, travel west on Highway 50, with overnight stops along the way, arriving in Placerville at High Hill Ranch on June 7.

On June 8, the wagons pull into Placerville for an all-day celebration at High Hill Ranch.

Scott Gabler was awarded the California Volunteer of the Year award by the governor.

Gabler is the South Lake Tahoe search and rescue program volunteer manager for the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.

In 2012 the local SAR team responded to 94 incidents. Out of those calls, Gabler responded to 86, making his deployment participation level at 91 percent.

This award recognized the excellence in the field of service and volunteering.
